I am Mr. LeGrand, this is Mr. Ross and Mr. Pruitt.

We are delighted to spend just a few minutes today to encourage each student in our Bossier Parish Schools to consider saving your money!

Our project title today is “TEACH A CHILD OR TEACH STUDENTS TO SAVE.”

Students, if you never remember anything that we discuss today I would ask that you remember this phrase:

IT IS NOT WHAT YOU MAKE, BUT WHAT YOU SAVE!!!!!

We all get our wants and needs confused at different times in our live. We may want something, but do we really need that particular item.

IMMEDIATE GRATIFICATION- getting what we want this very moment- and not thinking about tomorrow- not asking ourselves the question! Do we really need this particular item?

If today you were to be given a dollar bill:

Would you consider just savings 10% simply one dime out of the dollar or would you spend the whole dollar?if you would simply save 10% from every dollar that you ever received or worked for at the end of the year you would have a considerable savings and then you could purchase some of your wants.

Mr. Pruitt is going to read you a very short story about two students actually two brothers “A Tale of Two Brothers.” I think you will find that these two young men were quite opposite, we will then discuss your thoughts as to whom you think is the wiser of the two.

This is the beginning of John, Larry & Darryl’s presentation:

CITIZENS NATIONAL BANK TEACHES CHILDREN TO SAVE Students at Plantation Park, Kerr and Meadowview have a better grasp on the importance of saving their hard-earned money, thanks to the lessons they learned from representatives of Citizens National Bank. The bank partnered with Bossier Schools to teach financial literacy in the classroom as part of “Teach Children to Save Day,” a savings education campaign established by the American Bankers Association. “This program gives us the opportunity to use our life experiences and banking knowledge to motivate students to become lifelong savers,” said Jason Smith, Executive Vice President of Citizens National Bank.” The lesson had an impact on Plantation Park fourth grader Keydrian Fuller, who until now has not saved his money. He will now -- in his blue piggy bank that he and his classmates were given. “Needs are things you need to live and wants are what you want to play with,” Fuller explained. He also learned “to save 10-percent of what you make.” Smith added, “The sooner children learn the principles of saving, the better. Wants and needs is a lesson we, as adults, can probably benefit from learning as well.”
