RegisteringintheCambridgeLMSIfyoudon’thaveausernameandpasswordfortheCambridgeLMSpleaseregister.ToregisterintheCambridgeLMSpleasegotothewebsiteaddressinyourbook(forexamplewww.cambridgelms.org/main)

1. SelecttheRegistertab:

2. Inthefirstfieldselect“IamaTeacher”.Completethefieldsintheboxthatappears:Chooseausernamethatyouwouldliketouse.IfsomebodyelseisalreadyusingthatusernametheLMSwillsuggestadifferentone,oryoucanchooseanotheroneinthenextstep.

Onceyouhaveenteredyourdetails,pullthekeyiconontothelockiconandselectRegister.

3. Joining/settingupschoolYouwillnowbeofferedthreeoptions:

• JoinanExistingSchool.IfyourinstitutionisalreadysetupintheLMSyouwillbeinvitedtojoinit.YoucandothisbyenteringtheSchoolCode(pleaseaskyourClientAdministratorforit)orbysearchingforit

• AskforyourinstitutiontobesetupintheLMS• Continueasanindividualteacher,withoutjoiningorcreatinganinstitution.Choose

thisoptionifyoudonotwanttoco-teachwithanyotherteachersandarenotpartofalargerinstitutionwithmultipleteachersandaClientAdministrator.

Choosetheappropriateoptionforyourself.IfyoujoinanexistingschooltheClientAdministratorwillbeaskedtoacceptyou.OncethishasbeendoneandyouhavebeenassignedtoaclassyoucanmakefulluseoftheLMS.IfyourequestaSchoolAccountyourlocalsalesrepresentativewillcontactyouwithfurtherinformation.IfyoucontinueasanindividualteacheryouwillbeaskedsomefurtherdetailsandyouwillthenautomaticallybesetupintheLMS.Youwillbeabletocreateclasses,manageyourstudentsandmore.

ClassManagementfunctionalitiesThereareanumberofClassManagementfunctionalitieswhichallowyoutocreateclasses,enrolstudentsintoclassesandmore.TeacherswithinaninstitutiondonothaveaccesstothesefunctionsastheseareusuallyperformedbyyourClientAdministrator.However,yourClientAdministratorcanassignyoutheseprivileges.IfyouwouldliketomanageyourownclassespleasecontactyourClientAdministratoraskingthemtogiveyouClassManagementprivileges.

IndividualTeacherswhoarenotpartofalargerinstitutionautomaticallyhaveaccesstotheClassManagementfunctionalities.

CreatingClassesTocreateaclassselectCreateaClassontheMyTeachingscreen:

Youwillthenseethefollowingpopupwindow:

Givetheclassanamethatismeaningfultoyouandyourstudents.SettheFromandTodate–thesearethedatesthatyourstudentswillbeabletoworkthroughthematerialsintheclass.FromtheSeriestitledrop-downmenuchoosethecoursethatyouarestudying,andchoosethecorrectlevelandanyfurthervariationsfromthe“Coursename”field:

SelectCreateclassandtheclasswillbecreated.Youwillbeshowntheclass’sClassCode;copythisandsendittoyourstudentsifyouwouldlikethemtoenrolintheclassthemselves.Youwillalsobegiventheoptionofgoingdirectlytotheclass,addingstudentsorremainingontheMyLearningpagebyclickingtheXinthetopright-handcornerofthepopupwindow:

Advancedoptions:CreatingandusingtemplatesDuringtheCreateclassprocessselectAdvancedoptionsifyouwouldliketocreateaclasstemplateoruseaclasstemplatetocreateanewclass.Classtemplatesallowyoutochangesettingswithinatemplateclasssuchasmakingpiecesofcontentavailableatcertaintimesandlockingthematothertimes.OnceyouhavesetallthesettingsyouwouldlikeyoucanthencreateasmanyclassesasyoulikewiththesamesettingsbyusingtheTemplatefunctionality.

Tocreateatemplate,selectAdvancedoptionsandthenchooseMakethisclassatemplate:

SelectCreateclassandyouwillfindthetemplateclassonyourMyTeachingpage.Gointotheclassandchangethesettingsyouwouldliketochange.Onceyouhavemadeanyrelevantchanges,usetheprocessabovetocreateaclassfromthetemplate,thistimechoosing“Useaclasstemplate”andselectingtherelevanttemplate.OnyourMyTeachingpageyoucantellthedifferencebetweenatemplateandaregularclassbythe icon:

Pleasenotethatyoumustsetallsettingsinatemplatebeforecreatingclassesfromthattemplate.Ifyoumakeanymorechangestothetemplateafteryouhavecreatedclassesfromit,thenewchangeswillnotbeappliedtotheotherclasses.

AskingStudentstoJoinyourClassOnceyouhavecreatedaclassitwillhaveauniqueClassCode.TheLMSshowsyouthecodeimmediatelyafteryoucreateaclassbutitisalsoontheclasshomepage:

YoucandistributethisClassCodetoyourstudentsforexamplebye-mailorinclass.StudentsneedtologintotheLMS,clickonJoinaClassandthenentertheirClassCode.Thiswillenablethemtojoinyourclass.Manyteachersfindthistheeasiestwaytoaddstudentstoaclass,especiallyiftheyhavepreviouslystudiedintheLMS.Alternativelyyoucanaddthestudentstoyourclassyourself–forinstructionsonthispleaseseethenextsections.

AddingStudentstoaClassStudentscanjoinaclassthemselvesusingtheClassCodefromthepreviousstep.Youcanalsoaddstudentstoaclassyourselfthoughbyfollowingtheseinstructions.OnyourMyTeachingpageselectManageStudentsnexttotherelevantclass,orgointotheclassandselecttheManageStudentstab.Youcannowaddasinglestudent,multiplestudentsorchangeemailsettingstosendane-mailtoanyenrolledstudents.

AddingsinglestudentsToaddasinglestudentselectAddstudent;youwillseethefollowingwindow:

Enterthestudent’sdetails.Ifyouhavethestudent’sActivationCodeyoucanenterithere.InmostcasesthoughthestudentwillentertheirownActivationCodewhichtheycanfindintheirbook.Choosewhethertosendthestudentawelcomee-mailnow,laterornotatall(clickintothe“Senditon”boxtochangethedate).

AdvancedoptionsTochooseausernameforthestudentselectAdvancedoptionsinordertoenterit:

AddingmultiplestudentsAtthebeginningofasemesteryoumighthavealotofuserstobringinatthesametime.TheeasiestwaytodothisistoselectAddMultipleUsers.Hereyoucanaddalotofusersandputthemstraightintoyourclass.ToaddmultiplestudentsgototherelevantclassandclickonManageStudents>Addmultiplestudents:

Youwillthenseethefollowingwindow:

FromthiswindowclickonSampletemplateinordertodownloadthesampletemplatewhichcontainsthefieldsyouneedtocomplete.Enterthedetailsofallyourstudentsintothisspreadsheet,saveit,thenuploaditintotheLMSbyclickingonBrowseonthatwindow.

Choosewhetheryouwouldliketosendyourstudentsawelcomee-mailornotandclickAdd.Thestudentswillbeaddedtotheclassand,ifrequested,theywillbesentane-mailwelcomingthemtotheclass.

MovingstudentsfromoneclasstoanotherFollowtheseinstructionstomoveoneormorestudentsfromoneclasstoanother.Tototheclasswhichcontainsthestudentsyouwouldliketomove.InthatclassselectManageStudentstodisplayalistofthestudentsinthisclass.Selectallthestudentsyouwouldliketomove,andchooseMovetoanotherclassfromthedrop-downmenu.ThenselectApply:

YouwillthenbeshownawindowinwhichyouchoosetheGroupandtheClasstowhichyouwouldliketomovethestudent(s).ChoosetherelevantclassandclickNext,andthestudent(s)willbemovedtothatclass:

Removingstudentsfromaclass;blocking/unblockingstudentsfromaclass;resettingastudent’spasswordYoucanremoveoneormorestudentsfromaclass,temporarilyblockaccesstoaclasstooneormorestudents,andresetoneormorestudents’passwords.

ToaccessthesefunctionsgototheclassandselectManageStudents.Selectthestudent(s)towhomyoucouldliketoapplythefunction,selecttherelevantfunctionfromthedrop-downmenuandclickApply:

Pleasenote:

• Removeastudentforexampleiftheyhavelefttheinstitution,oriftheyneedtobemovedtoaclasstowhichyoudonothaveaccess.Thenewteacherwillneedtoaddthemtotheirclassinthiscase

• Youcantemporarilyblockandthenlateronunblocktheiraccesstothecourse.Thismaybebecausetheyhavenotyetpaidtheircoursefeesbutyouareexpectingthemtodososhortly

• IfastudentforgetstheirpasswordtheycanusetheForgotPasswordfunctionalityontheLMShomepageandthiswille-mailthemalinktoresettheirpassword.Iftheyenteredanincorrecte-mailaddressthoughornolongerhaveaccesstoityoucanresettheirpasswordforthem.

Sendingstudentsane-mailYoucansendstudentsane-mailfromwithintheLMS.Todosogointotheclass,thenclickonManageStudents>Emailsettings:

Youwillthenseethefollowingwindow:

EntertheSubjectline,themessageandchoosetowhomtosendthee-mailandclickSend.

AdvancedemailoptionsUsingtheAdvancedoptionsintheEmailsettingsareayoucanchangethestandarde-mailthatgetssenttostudentswhentheyjoinaclassorwhenyouaddthemtoaclass:

Notethatanytextthatbeginswith%(e.g.%first_name)isautomaticallygeneratedbytheLMS.Youcanremovetheseorreplacethemwithotherfixedtextasyoulike.OnceyouhavemadeanychangesyouwouldliketomakeclickSaveandthenexttimeyouaddastudenttotheclassorastudentjoinstheclasstheywillreceivetheupdatede-mail.

Viewingthecontentinyourclass

1. GototheMyTeachingpage.FindtheclassyouwanttoaccessandselectContent:

Thiswilltakeyoutothespecificclassandtothecontents.

2. YouwillnowseetheContentpage.Dependingontheclassorproductyouhavechosenyoumayseedifferenttypesofcontent.InthisexampletheproducthasAssessment,OnlineWorkbooksandExtensionactivities.Toexplorethecontentsselectoneachheadingatatime,thenselectthe“Showall”linkonthepage.Thiswilllistalltheunits,activitiesorothercomponentsforyoutoview.

UsingtheLMSTools1. TouseanyoftheLMSTools,logintotheLMSandgototheMyTeachingpage.Find

yourclassandselectClassHomenexttoitsname:

2. OntheClassHomepageyouwillseetheClassToolstab.Selectittoshowthetoolsavailableinthatclass.

Selectthetoolyouwouldliketouse,forexampletheForum.

UsingtheGradebookTheGradebookgivesyouinformationaboutyourstudents’performance–whichactivitieseachstudenthasdone,whatgradestheyhaveearnedandmore.1) ToviewtheGradebookgototheclasshomepageandselecttheGradebooktab:

2) Scrolldownthatpagetoseeawhole-classoverviewofyourstudents,initiallyinScore

view:

Sointhisexample,1studenthasreceivedanaveragescoreof20–39%ontheworktheyhavedone,3studentseachhavereceivedanaveragescoreof40–59%and60–79%,and2studentshavereceivedscoresof80–100%ontheworktheyhavedone.Furtherdownthepage,underStudents’Details,youcanseehowmuchofthematerialsastudenthasdone(e.g.StudentThreehasdone5%ofthecourse)andtheaveragescoreonthoseactivities(54%).3) IfyouselectProgresstheviewchangestogiveyouinformationaboutstudents’

progressratherthantheirscores:

Sointhiscase,16studentshavecompletedbetween0and19%ofthematerials,indicatingthatthisisthebeginningofterm.4) Inbothcases–Scoreview,andProgressview–youcanselectaparticularstudentto

findoutmoreinformationabouttheirstudies.SelectingStudentThreegivesthisview:

NexttoeachUnityouwillseeScoreandProgressinformation.Selecttheunitheadertorevealinformationaboutindividualactivitiesworkedon:

HereyoucanseeScoreandProgressforeachactivity,andalsothenumberofattempts(thenumber1againstayellowcircle).Selecttheicontotherightofeachactivitytogiveyoutheopportunitytocomparestudents’gradesonthatparticularactivity,changeagradethattheLMShasgivenastudent,orleaveastudentacommentonaparticularactivity:
