OverviewoftheEvaluationStudy:Purposes

• To gauge the degree of program implementation: To what degree are teachers in treatment schools (novice ELA teachers and all ELA teachers) participating in key components of the TPP?

• To gauge impacts on teacher practices: Has participating in the TPP helped novice teachers implement CCSS-aligned practices more than novice teachers in control schools?

• To gauge impacts on student learning: Has participating in the TPP helped students of novice teachers perform better on state ELA assessments and the study-designed literacy task than students in control schools?

13

SpecificsoftheEvaluationStudy

• Our evaluation partner: Mathematica Policy Research• Program evaluation is based on data from both treatment and

control schools on:

– Two online teacher surveys– Two non-evaluative classroom observations conducted by

Mathematica Policy Research (fall / spring)– Teacher and student demographics provided by districts– Student scores on state ELA assessments provided by

districts – Student scores on a literacy task (in novice teacher

classrooms only)

What resonates in your work? What questions emerge?

● Find a partner or trio (from your organization, if present; from another, if not)

● Using questions on note catcher handout, discuss the following:○ What lessons learned stick with you? Resonate? Excite you?○ What questions emerge for you in your own work now that

you’ve explored our lessons learned?
