FACTS 'Teachers Day' is intended to be a special day for theappreciation of teachers World Teachers' Day is celebrated across the world onOctober 5 Ever since the importance of teachers has beenrecognized by UNESCO, by adopting theRecommendation concerning the status of teachers,World Teachers' Day has been celebrated annually. In most cases, different countries celebrate a localeducator or an important milestone in education Hence, all countries celebrate this day on differentdates, unlike many other International Days. 3. FACTS India celebrates its Teachers Day on5th September in the honor of its firstvice-president and second president,Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan September1888 17 April 1975) was an Indianphilosopher and statesman. He wasthe first Vice-President of India(19521962) and subsequently thesecond President of India (19621967). 4. FACTS Among the many honours he received were aknighthood (1931), the Bharat Ratna (1954) and theOrder of Merit in 1963. When he became President, some of his students andfriends requested him to allow them to celebrate hisbirthday, 5th September. He replied, Instead ofcelebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilegeif 5 September is observed as Teachers' Day. Since then, His birthday is celebrated in India asTeachers' Day on 5 September. According to him, Teachers should be the best mindsin the country. 5. A Few Ideas on Teachers-A.P.J.
