Discuss handouts and the importance ofkeeping track of school information in thefile folder.
Share information on opportunities for par-ent involvement.
Discuss school and bus policies.
Explain the family activities before breakinginto groups.
Part II: Family Interactive Activity
Read the book together as a family.
Make child's schoolwork folder.
Make school bus.
Sing "Wheels on the Bus" and do the bus fingerplay.
Part III: Snack
Core the apple.Cut into slices to make wheels.Spread apple slices with peanut butter.Serve with apple juice or milk.

FAMILY ACTIVITIES
READY FOR PRESCHOOLRead the book:
Hold your child on your lap or sit close together. Read School Bus by Donald Crews.
Make school keepsake folder:
Glue the months of the year chart on the outside of the file folder.
Write the child's name and year in school on the tab.
Let your child decorate his folder with markers.
Talk about putting different things in the folder each month to help him remember his school year.
Use the chart to record what is saved eachmonth.
Make the school bus:
Fold yellow construction paper in half.Cut around the bus.Put people in your bus by drawing faces in the windows with markers.
Draw a bus driver driving the bus.Be sure to draw the children's faces and driver on both sides of the bus.
Cut out school bus rules and glue on theinside of the bus.
Snack:
Core the apples.Cut into wheels.Spread wheels with peanut butter.Enjoy with your drink.

FIGHTING THE PAPER CHASE
Use a manila folder to keep everything together.
Read school newsletters.Write important dates on your calendar.Save important papers in a separate file folder.
Save important work that your child has done in his own folder.
RULES
Review the school rules.Review the bus rules.Set new household rules.
GETTING INVOLVED
Volunteer in your child's classroom.Do the "Take Home Activities" with your child.
Talk with your child about his day.Ask open-ended questions, not yes or no questions.
Look at school papers together and praise good work.
Read the newsletters; mark important dates – on the school calendar.
Go to Family Fun Times each month.
