Widehorizons is a charity focussed on the delivery of inspirational, high-quality outdoor learning experiences to children and young people. Our aim is to work with schools to transform lives through the provision of outdoor education. We believe that every child should be given the opportunity to have inspirational outdoor experiences throughout their education. We are so much more than an ‘activity’ organisation; we deliver real outdoor education courses that engage children with their subject, leading to real learning opportunities, social and emotional skills development and all whilst having fun. We have two day centres and four residential centres that cater for all age groups. All of our residential centres offer a good standard of accommodation and catering with fully equipped classrooms, social areas and separate teacher’s rooms. All of our centres have fully qualified and experienced staff, and are well resourced to provide a high-quality learning environment and peace of mind for schools and parents alike. BryntysilioResidential centre located near Llangollen. Set in its own beautiful grounds, this centre provides a broad adventurous programme including activities such as mountaineering, canoeing and mountain biking.Capacity: 50

Ty’n y BerthResidential centre comprising of two sites located on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park. Courses at this centre include adventurous activities such as caving, climbing and gorge walking.Capacity: 40 and 30

Horton KirbyDay centre located in Kent surrounded by farmland, woods and villages and is close to the River Darent and a Country Park. All of these provide wonderful opportunities for learning and discovery.Capacity: 90

Our centres are all quality assured and hold certificates from the Adventurous Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) or the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOTC) Quality Badge.

Our sessions are constantly monitored and regularly updated to reflect changes in education and the needs of our visiting schools and education groups.

We work with groups from pre-school and KS1 up to Further and Higher Education, including special schools.

We also have a range of CPD opportunities for teachers, support staff and other practitioners.

Here are some examples of our sessions and courses:

l Science: mini-beasts, pond/river dipping, rock pooling, salt marshes, micro-climates, forensics.

l Geography: coasts, rivers, hazards, contrasting localities, geomorphology, rebranding.

l Art: paper-making, pottery, environmental art.l PE: orienteering, route finding.l History: Victorian quarry, life of an evacuee,

Margaret McMillan HouseResidential centre located in rural Kent on the North Downs and conveniently near to London. Margaret McMillan has 26 acres which includes ropes courses, obstacle courses and initiative exercises.Capacity: 150

TownsendResidential centre located on the World Heritage Jurassic Coast in Swanage, Dorset. This centre provides a broad range of activities with a strong focus on using the local area as much as possible in its courses.Capacity: 115

ECS (Environmental Curriculum Service)Day centre located in south-east London. This centre is in a unique nine-acre wildlife site and is specifically designed for educational use. It contains many exciting outdoor education resources. Capacity: 90
