• The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) is the technical wing of the ministry.

• Central Electricity Regulatory Commission is to regulate the tariff of generating companies, to regulate interstate transmission of electricity, to issue licenses to function as transmission licensees, to adjudicate upon disputes involving distribution companies or transmission licensee, to specify grid code etc.

• Central Transmission Utility is a government company to undertake transmission of electricity through the interstate transmission system.

• Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), which is a Government of India company, is entrusted with the responsibility of creating a national transmission grid.
