• The researcher presents the topic Teaching English as a Second
Language to Students in Panama by reason of the importance
that this language has worldwide.
• As in all the countries in where this language has become
essential for life, Panama is not the exception; here, English is a
key issue in schools.

Background
the teaching of English as a second language (ESL) began in the
15th century when the British Empire needed to communicate with
other colonies.
Other acronyms for this include EFL (English as a Foreign
Language) and EAL (English as an Additional Language).

The Grammar-Translation Method is a traditional method based on

foreign language.

“TESL” came out when English was expanding worldwide since it
started to be used for trade.
Because of the importance of this language globally, in Panama,
English has become the main tool, boosting the economy and tourism.
There are effective techniques that teachers can apply to improve
students´ skills.
CONCLUSIONS
• Students must be encouraged to the importance of the English language
for their professional progress.
• The teacher's duty is increasing his/her understanding looking for
resources.
• The teacher must remember that teaching a language is a process that
requires patience and dedication.
