Teaching Reading Strategies to Students of English I, at UNEXPO “Luis Caballero Mejìas”, through the Use of a Wiki
Objectives of the e-Project
Main Objective
• To teach some reading strategies for improving the reading comprehension performance of my students of English I, at Unexpo "LCM", through the use of a wiki.
Secondary Objectives
• To train my students of English I, at Unexpo "LCM", in the correct use of Wikis for academic purposes, including the proper use of Netiquettes.
• To design an online bank of technical readings for the students of English I, at Unexpo.
• To avoid spending a lot of paper to photocopy the different readings used in the English I classes at Unexpo.
ADVANTAGES
Engineering students: 40% Systems – 30% Mechanical – 30% Industrial 80 % have a computer at home with broadband Most of them have a good command of Office programs. Most of them are willing to learn through technology.
DISADVANTAGES
They have never been taught through a web 2.0 tool. Unexpo does not have, an English lab English classes at Unexpo are taught in Spanish

WEEK I: MAKING INFERENCES • Create a Pbworks account
• Watch the tutorials in Youtube. (English/Spanish)
• Join to the Wiki course
• Do the corresponding exercises
WEEK II: SKIMMING
• Check the reading about how to Skim a text
• Do the exercise about Skimming
• Write your reflections about using this strategy
WEEK III: SCANNING • Check the reading about how to Scan a text
• Do the exercise about Scanning
• Answer the questions about the reading
• Write your reflections about using this strategy
WEEK IV: PARAPHRASING
• Check the recommended article about how to paraphrase a text .
• Read the original text and make a paraphrasis of it
• Post your paraphrasis in the Wiki and compare your version with your classmates job.
