ABSTRACT

TEACHING VOCABULARY USING

MONTESSORI METHOD

By:

Dwi Apriyanti

The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of teaching

English vocabulary using Montessori method.

This research was conducted at one of primary schools in Banyumas. The

total sample of this research was 59 respondents. The method of this research was

quasi experiment, because the respondents were divide into two groups, the

experiment class and control class. Both of them were given treatment, but

treatment using Montessori method was given for the experiment class and

control class was given treatment using discussion. The experiment research was

carried out on January 2013. To get the sample, this research used random

sampling technique. In collecting the data, this research used tests, multiple

choices, gap fillings and matching words. The pre-test was given before treatment

was done and post-test was given after treatment was done.

Based on the data analysis, it was found that t-test was 2.001 and t-table

with degree of freedom 57 was 1.6720. It was concluded that the result of t-test

was higher that t-table (2.001>1.6720). Therefore, Montessori method was

effective for teaching English vocabulary.
