▪ Goal:– Produce clear and coherent writing for a range
of tasks, purposes, and audiences

Course Overview: Grammar
▪ Goal:– Demonstrate command of the
conventions of standard English grammar
▪ Process:– Parts of speech– Punctuation– Sentence variety and
structure
Course Overview: Vocabulary
▪ Goal:– Understand and accurately use grade-
appropriate words, figurative language, etc.
▪ Process:– Select readings– Word parts (prefixes, roots, suffixes)

▪ 1” binder with 5 tabs
▪ Notebook (for notes)
▪ Loose leaf paper
▪ Pencil or pen (blue or black ink)
▪ Red pen (for correcting)
▪ Highlighters
▪ Student planner
▪ Writer’s-Reader’s Notebook
▪ Reading material (for pleasure; must be in English and not for class/school)
Grading Procedure
▪ Total points– Homework– Classwork– Quizzes– Tests– Projects/Essays
Assignments
▪ Most homework is worth five points.– Homework is graded on completion and effort.– Homework that is turned in one day late with a signed
late homework slip will receive up to 4 points (“B”).– Homework that is turned in during the Friday
homework detention will receive up to half credit.
▪ Major assignments need to be turned in on the due date. One letter grade will be deducted for each day it is late.– In the case of an absence, it can be turned in via
email or dropped off at the main office by 3:30 P.M.
▪ Points for quizzes, projects, essays, and tests will vary.
Study Session
▪ Mondays, 3:30-4:30 P.M.
▪ Available in the Media Center on Tuesday afternoons (3:35-4:30 P.M.)
▪ As needed basis, by appointment (AM or PM)
