Required Skills for Manufacturing Team Challenge (Refer to your Technical Description)

1) Design - The task is to have all design work including process parts, jigs, and fixtures carried out in accordance with the instructions, specifications, drawings, parts, and samples provided by the project designer(s).

2) Program generation - Generate all programs required for the automated sections of the task including those for any CNC machines, robots, PCs and PLCs

3) Manufacture - Make any parts nominated by the experts as well as those needed for the working of those manufactured parts such as jigs, fixtures, adaptors, and process attachments to the required tolerances.

4) Assembly - Assemble the various components either manufactured previously or supplied as part of the task by outside sources using automated methods where nominated as part of the task.

5) Optimisation - Revise the manufacturing and assembly process to optimise cycle times and reduce the process cost. 6) Documentation - Document the process including header page, index, and descriptive overview of the task, hard copy of any

programs, instructions for setting up and assembly, and any relevant drawings. 7) Design - Ability to interpret, construct, and modify engineering CAD drawings, to work with 3D modelling, and to convert both to

CAM. Use CAM to generate toolpaths using a suitable postprocessor. Drawing standard will be ISO-A or ISO-E depending on country involved.

8) Machining - A good knowledge of machining to drawings on conventional machine tools and setting up, loading, and running CNC machines from a CAM generated toolpath including the ability to modify that toolpath manually to meet the specification of the finished product. It is expected that knowledge be required for machining steel (400-550 N/sq. mm.) or aluminium, plastics or whatever material it is made of. As required to complete the assembly of jigs, fixtures, or the project.

9) Mechatronics - A sound knowledge of Mechatronics/electronics and electrical and robotics as required by the design of the project. 10)

‘The best way to make your dreams come true is to wake up’ French philosopher and poet, Paul Valery

Setting Goals World cup winning wallaby rugby teams goals and mission statement

Set ourselves the highest possible standards, never resting in our pursuit of excellence, both on and off the field. At all times be positive in our approach, whilst constantly seeking new ideas and innovations. Keep ahead of the game, making use of the best technologies and resources available to us. Study and respect our opposition.

Setting Your Goals! – What, when & How? Remember the 6 P’s – Poor Preparation Produces Piss Poor Performance

Goals

When How Develop team dynamics Start 23/11/06 Constant communication – phone/email and workshops Develop design and manufacturing solutions for the project – 3 workshops By 25th March Design, build and then test units and decide on possible

solutions 3 team members to update/develop new skill areas – CAD modelling, welding and sheetmetal work By November TAFE courses and extra training opportunities

‘People tend to use traditional methods because they feel it is safer. But I believe if we are more innovative,

and open our minds, the risks of failure are far less and the chance of success more certain’ Rod McQueen, Australian Rugby Coach

Competitor Strengths and Weaknesses Strengths

Weaknesses Good basic skills base to develop from

All team members are reserved and quiet – need to focus on all being more assertive – need more ‘mongrel’ in them all This would be due to lack of confidence in their own ability so I need to focus on developing increased confidence

Quiet but keen and enthusiastic see weakness

Communication will always be a problem

Skill areas to focus on – CAD modelling , welding both TIG and MIG and also sheetmetal skills

‘Life is all about meeting new challenges and gaining experience as you go. If your instincts indicate to you a certain direction, do everything you can to reach your full potential in whatever it may be. Don’t waste a second of your life. Be your best at all things at all times.’
