TEAM BUILDING AND LEADERSHIP PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SHORT COURSE A focus on shared services, special projects, collaborative and partnership working has seen an increased demand for effective and cross-functional teams within local government with new levels of technology, communication and connectivity impacting team structures, locations and outputs. Local government teams need to be able to respond to changing service delivery models, social, financial and environmental challenges, and new models of governance and strategic plans. This course enables local government professionals to enhance their skills and understanding of what it means to build a team, to work with other team members, to lead a team, and to display leadership within a team. During this course students build and demonstrate team leadership skills and strategies using a work-related project over a period of 2-3 months. Utilising on-line learning and coaching supervision, students are able to apply learning and tools into their roles for direct impact and development. ABOUT THE PRESENTERS Leadership Program Specialist: Sophi Bruce With over 20 years’ experience working in and with the public sector, Sophi specialises in approaches to leadership development, change and transition, and social impact projects. She understands the complexities of leading in local government and draws on a range of techniques that help people to work collaboratively and generate improved outcomes. With UTS since 2011, Sophi has responsibility for the suite of leadership programs offered by the Centre for Local Government. CONTENT WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Understanding Teams: Types of teams; The forming and selec- tion process; preparing and developing a team for success; team dynamics and processes; learning approaches and styles.
