Media Release For Immediate Release Date: August 14, 2015 Contact: Andrew Marshall Teamsters Local Union 104 (602) 524-1277 Teamsters Sun Tran Strike Update As the Teamsters stated yesterday, “The 530 striking Sun Tran employees and Teamsters Local Union 104 are sympathetic to the ongoing struggle that Tucson area residents continue to face with each day the strike continues. The resolution of this strike does not draw nearer with continued accusations of unreasonableness or finger pointing in the media. However, the resolution of this strike can begin to draw nearer when both sides commit to return to the table and resume meaningful discussions about reaching an agreement that the striking employees, the Union, and the Company can live with.” The Teamsters were contacted by Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services today who informed them that Sun Tran had contacted the mediator with a response to the Teamster’s comprehensive proposal which was presented to Sun Tran by the mediator yesterday afternoon. Sun Tran informed the mediator that they had reviewed and costed the entire union proposal and found it to be economically unfeasible, therefore the original firm and final presented to the Teamsters and rejected by a vote of 363 no votes to 4 yes votes would remain in place and unchanged. Furthermore, Sun Tran had the audacity to request a meeting with the Teamsters negotiating committee and federal mediator late Monday afternoon on August 17, 2015 to sit down and discuss the issues. The Teamsters have repeatedly offered to return to the negotiating table if Sun Tran is serious about bargaining in good faith and addressing the safety, health, and economic issues that remain unresolved. Sun Tran’s clear and unambitious statement that the rejected firm and final offer remains in place and unchanged demonstrates their disregard for the negotiating process and their disdain for the passengers suffering who depend on Sun Tran as an intrical part of their daily lives. The Teamsters remain committed to resolving this strike in a fair and equitable manner, but Sun Tran’s actions this afternoon along and their statements clearly demonstrates that they have no desire or intention of settling this strike anytime soon.
