About IMTMA:

Constituted in 1947, Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA) represents the entire machine tool industry in India. The apex body of the machine tool industry, IMTMA has a membership of over 400 organisations – spread across the country and comprising all segments; large, medium, and small. Membership of IMTMA specialises in the complete range of metalworking machine tools and manufacturing solutions, accessories for machines, as well as the varied range of cutting tools and tooling systems.IMTMA is deeply committed to support its membership to increase competitiveness, enhance efficiency, improve productivity, and ensure growth and prosperity. It does so with the aim to assist the membership to become cost effective, technology driven, and ever responsive to customers’ changing needs. And that is precisely why IMTMA is today recognised as the sole voice of the Indian machine tool industry - its membership constituting over 90 per cent of this strategic sector in the country.IMTMA, has over the years, transformed itself to looking beyond, to focus on issues of technology, productivity, quality, design, product development, greater customer interface, so as to enable its membership enhance their competitiveness, advancement and growth. IMTMA is the single point of contact for the machine tool industry in India.

IMTMA Technology Centre:

IMTMA Technology Centre has been set up in Bangalore with the objective of providing state of art technical inputs to machine tool builders and its users.

It has three broad areas of operation.

Page 4: Tech Centre

i. Technology Division:

The aim of this arm of the Technology Centre is to provide technology inputs to machine tool builders in India. This would be done through tie up and establishment of linkages between academic and research institutions on one hand and Indian machine tool builders.

The Government of India has several initiatives, which could be usefully tapped by Indian machine tool builders to modernize and upgrade their technology so that they could be at the cutting edge of technological development and not fall by the wayside as the world moves on.

The Technology Division also provides inputs on technical issues as and when requested by member companies. It also supports the other activities such as Business Development, Training, Technology Missions, interaction with government, UNIDO etc. in taking forward the technology agenda of the machine tool industry.

ii. Design Institute

The objective of the Design arm of the Technology Institute is to strengthen the design capability of the Indian machine tool builders. This is achieved through training programs, which is conducted for designers through short and medium term courses.

iii. Productivity Institute

Machine tools are used by machine tool manufacturers as well as the user industry. Often competitiveness is lost due to poor productivity. This is primarily due to insufficient training and more so in SME sector.

IMTMA is conducting several training programs on various technical subjects and major events for example Productivity Summit, International Metal Cutting and Metal Forming Seminars, etc. These seminars, workshops, and training programs are all covered under the Productivity Institute initiatives of the Technology Centre.
