    1. Introduction1.1 Purpose

    The following describes the process of creating and setting the MIs inthe system.

    1.2 Overview

    This document gives you a step by step approach to create and set theaircraft Maintenance Items in the RAL system. The screen shotsincluded in this document are created to demonstrate the menu optionto be selected to achieve each stage.

    2. Specific Instructions

    1. Go to Engineering>Maintenance Planning> Maintenance Items

    2. Select the Maintenance Item that needs to be edited3. Click Edit

    2.2 Edit the Maintenance Item

    1. Select the appropriate Issuer & Type2. Check the appropriate Maintenance Item Parameters, particularly

    the following:

    a. One Time Item If ticked, you can only enter a Life Codewith a Threshold Value, i.e. you cannot enter a repetitiveValue. Once carried out these Maintenance Items aredropped from the list and will no longer appear on aForecast.

    b. No extension allowed This is for items where no time or life escalation is possible

    c. Scrap This needs to be selected for items which are

    discarded after their life expiresd. Forecast Longest Life - if you have an MI set which islimited (life) of 5000 hours or 18 months. Normally thesystem (by default) will forecast whichever limit falls first. Butthis MI option will forecast on this longer life.

    e. Finite Due Time Item - When carrying out Finite Due TimeItem's, you will set the Due Time only on an asset by assetbasis,

    f. Variable Life Time: This allows you to add a life code to anMI but no values can be set, all you are doing is sayingwhich life codes are controlling the item.

    6. Add Card: Click the check box button to add appropriate card for the MI. If the MI has a Card once you click on the check box a newwindow will popup, click on add button and you will be able to selectfrom there one or multiple cards at a time.

    7. Next in the Model applicability tab, as shown in figure 4, add themodels to which this MI is applicable.

    This will then create unset MIs for all aircraft(s) which belong to themodel set as applicable to the MI. If there are more than one MIlocations then more than one MI will appear as unset items. You canobserve this, as shown in figure 5, in the status tab of the MI. If unset the MI will appear in red.

    8. Next setting the Maintenance Item: there is more than oneway to set the MI.

    i. From the MI Grid of the Registration doubleclick the unset item which you will be able to see in redcolor and select the correct Work Order no and Task no,this is a mandatory field.

    ii. From the Asset Grid of Registration: while doingAttach and Detach if the MI is applicable to componentModel system gives you opportunity to set the MI for thatAsset.

    iii. From the status page, as shown in figure 6. Byselecting the unset MI and clicking on set MI button youcan launch the form for setting the MI. The work orderand task fields are mandatory for setting the MI. They tell

    the system when the MI was last carried out. Howeverwhen carrying out initial records loading it is quite

    possible that you choose to use one work order and taskcombination to set all MIs. If you choose to use thismethod you will have to edit the due at and remainingvalues for the life codes applicable to the MI.
