y Files- Used to cut fine amounts of
material from a workpiece.o Rat-tail Gradually
tapered and are used formany tasks that required
a round tool, such as
enlarging round holes or
cutting a scalloped
edge.
o Pippin files - Tapered inwidth and thickness,
generally of a teardrop
cross section and having
the edge of a knife file.
Used for filing the
junction of two curvedsurfaces and making V-
shaped slots.
o Square files - Graduallytapered and cut on all
four sides. Used for a
wide variety of things.
o TriangularFiles - Havea triangular cross-
section, which usually
gradually tapers. Some
files taper all the way toa point (especially small
ones). Three squarefiles are used for many
cuts, such as cuttingangles less than 90
degrees.o Half-round Ring Files -
Taper in width and
thickness, coming to a
point, and are narrower
than a standard half
round. Used for filinginside of rings.
