    - Timber sheets that is producedby gluing wood layers or fibres

    together.

    y MDF Smooth, even-surfaced;Made withsawdust held together by

    90 degrees to each other;

    Always in Odd-numbered

    together; Usually veneered

    or covered in plastic

    made from timber strips

    y Hardboard Very cheapparticle board which

    sometimes has a laminatedplastic surface; Sawdust

    TOOLS

    y Hacksaw- Fine-tooth saw with a bladeunder tension in a frame, usedfor cutting materials such as

    metal or plastics.- Has pins for attaching a narrow

    disposable blade.- Held with Pistol Grip.- 10-12 inches = Standard

    - 14-32 = Hand Blade tpio Handle (Different with

    y Coping Saw- Used to cut moldings to create

    coped rather than miter joints

    y Backsaw- Hand saw which has a

    stiffening rib on the edge

    opposite the cutting edge,allowing for better control and

    more precise cutting than with

    other types of saws.

    cutting small, often awkward

    y Dovetail Saw- a small backsaw used to cut

    dovetails. Although most

    dovetail saw teeth are set forcross-cutting a rip saw tooth

    pattern is more efficient.

    y Files- Used to cut fine amounts of

    material from a workpiece.o Rat-tail Gradually

    tapered and are used formany tasks that required

    a round tool, such as

    enlarging round holes or

    cutting a scalloped

    edge.

    o Pippin files - Tapered inwidth and thickness,

    generally of a teardrop

    cross section and having

    the edge of a knife file.

    Used for filing the

    junction of two curvedsurfaces and making V-

    shaped slots.

    o Square files - Graduallytapered and cut on all

    four sides. Used for a

    wide variety of things.

    o TriangularFiles - Havea triangular cross-

    section, which usually

    gradually tapers. Some

    files taper all the way toa point (especially small

    ones). Three squarefiles are used for many

    cuts, such as cuttingangles less than 90

    degrees.o Half-round Ring Files -

    Taper in width and

    thickness, coming to a

    point, and are narrower

    than a standard half

    round. Used for filinginside of rings.

    y PowerDrill- A fixed style of drill that may

    be mounted on a stand or

    bolted to the floor orworkbench.

    material bonded to its surface.

    y Sanding block- In its simplest form, it is a

    block of wood or cork with one

    smooth flat side.
