Automatically generating a select
node in IBM SPSS Modeler

• You can use the select node
to select or discard a subset
of records from your stream
using a particular condition
• E.g. Only selecting out
Females
• This is done by specifying the
relevant CLEM expression in
the expression builder

• IBM SPSS Modeler allows
you to select sections of
output and then generate a
Select node directly
• Allowing you to make quick
selections without having
to construct the CLEM
expression

• Suppose you run out a table and you decide want to select
Married Males who have a Mortgage?
Example 1: Making selections from a Table

• This is easily done using the
Generate menu item
• Different logical options
available (records, and, or)
• A select node (named
generated) will appear on the
stream canvas
• This can then be connected
to the relevant point in the
stream
Example 1: Making selections from a Table

You might look at the results of a distribution node and
decide you want to select out a subset of the data based on
this
E.g. Single and Divorced
individuals

• This is easily done using the
Generate menu item
• Select Node for Table
• The select node will contain
the required CLEM
expression
