Due to the potentially high DHWtemperatures generated by the solarheating system, the domestic hotwater temperature must be limited to amaximum of 140°F/60°C by installinga mixing device, e.g. a thermostaticmixing valve. The mixing device doesnot completely eliminate the risk ofscalding at the tap. The installation of amixing tap is required.

Sensor well
The supplied stainless steel sensor wells areto be used for control sensors to ensuremaximum operational safety. The top sensorwell is used for the DHW sensor connectedto the boiler control.Should the supplied sensors not fit into thesensor wells, other stainless steel sensorwells must be used.For solar heating systems, Viessmannrecommends placement of the DHW tanktemperature sensor in the solar collectorreturn. This requires a brass elbow withsensor well included in the accessory pack(see pg. 8).

Heating water supply temperatureover 230ºF / 110ºC
These operating conditions require theinstallation of an additional safety high limitinto the DHW storage tank, preventing thetemperature from rising above 203ºF /95ºC. A domestic hot water temperingvalve must be used.
Temperature and pressurerelief valve
A temperature and pressure relief valve(T&P relief valve) is supplied with the tank.The heating contractor must install thevalve on each tank in a method meetingcode requirements. If local codes require adifferent relief valve, substitute themanufacturer’s supplied valve. The tank isapproved for 100 psig where a CRN isrequired. Maximum operating pressure is150 psig.The T&P relief valve supplied with the tankis manufactured by Watts Industries (Model40XL-8), set to 100 psig for Canadianinstallations and set to 150 psig for USinstallations (where applicable). The valve isASME pressure steam rated for 998 MBHand CSA temperature steam rated for200 MBH. It is tested under ANSI Z21.22Code for Relief Valves and Automatic GasShut-off Devices for Hot Water SupplySystems. The relief temperature is set at210°F / 99°C. The valve has a malethreaded inlet and female threaded outlet,both ¾” sizes.
Backflow preventers
Where backflow preventers are required, adomestic water expansion tank installationis recommended in the cold water inletpiping before the cold water enters theVitocell. For the backflow device, observelocal plumbing codes and regulations.
Warranty excerpt
Our warranty for domestic hot water tanksstates that the water to be heated must beof drinking (potable) water quality and thatany water treatment equipment in use mustfunction correctly.Viessmann accepts no responsibility fordamage howsoever caused and reserves theright to withdraw the product warranty if theproduct has been improperly installed ormisapplied by the installer, contractor or finaluser. In order to qualify for product warranty,strict adherence to the installation andservice manuals must be assured. In theevent that Viessmann non-approvedcomponents are utilized, Viessmann reservesthe right to withdraw all expressed or impliedwarranties without written notice.
The water to be heated with the Vitocellmust be drinking (potable) water quality. Ifthe tank is used to heat other media, thewarranty will be null and void. Damageresulting from excessive pressure ortemperature is clearly not the responsibilityof Viessmann.
The amount of chloride and sulfateacceptable to the tank is limited. In areaswhere high concentrations of chloride andsulfate are present in drinking water, pleaseconsult Viessmann for directions.

To ensure optimum, safe operation, thesupplied stainless steel well must beinstalled. The well diameter is largeenough to accommodate a wide varietyof sensing bulbs.Always use spring clip to ensure propercontact of capillary bulb against thestainless steel well for propersensing/heat transfer!
