    I. INTRODUCTIONS ABOUT AAC BLOCK

    1. HOW IS IT MADE?

The main ingredients of SUPERBLOCK are sand, lime and cement which constitutes 99% of the raw material. Three forth of SUPERBLOCK constitutes of air.

SUPERBLOCK is manufactured from cement, lime and sand, mixed with the water to form slurry then special additive is added. The additive reacts with the lime to form millions of tiny hydrogen bubbles which expand the mixture and then diffuse from the material to be replaced by air. This process forms the microcellular structure, which gives the material its lightweight and excellent insulation. To form an individual block, prior to complete setting, the large moulds of SUPERBLOCK are cut to form blocks using a precision mechanized steel wire cutting system. Once cut, SUPERBLOCK is cured in high pressure stream autoclaves bringing them to full concrete strength in 12 hours.

    2. IS THERE ANY RECYCLED MATERIAL IN IT?

There is the recycled material mixed in the production process. "Recycling" is the blocks which have been autoclaved but cracked or chipped. These blocks are grinded and used as one of key raw materials. These blocks contain a better engineer property when compare with sand because they consist of "Tobermorite Crystal Structure".

    3. WHAT ARE THE MAXIMUM SIZES?

SUPERBLOCK comes with 2 standard sizes: (width x length) 200x600mm and 300x600mm and the thickness begins from 50mm to approx. 300mm. The thickness can be increased every 5mm.

    4. WHAT COLORS?

Generally, SUPERBLOCK comes only in white color, which is the color of its pure texture. Colored block of any required color can be manufactured per requested by customers.

    5. WHAT IS IT CURRENTLY USED FOR?

SUPERBLOCK is building material that combines lightweight with high strength and provides a number of advantages over alternative building materials through superior engineer properties such as thermal insulation, acoustic dampening and fire resistance. Applications are for construction of civil, healthcare facilities, municipal, commercial and residential buildings and houses.

    6. THE UNIQUE QUALIFICATIONS WHICH MAKE SUPERBLOCK DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS

SUPERBLOCK has more mass and density which is 610-700 kg/m3 in accordance with TIS (or TCVN 7959: 2008) G4 while the density of other brands is 310-500 kg/m3 (G2 Quality Level). Its weight is 2 4 times lighter than clay brick wall, which helps to save cost for the sub-structure.

SUPERBLOCK has the compressive strength of 50 kg/cm2 while other has 20-25 kg/cm2.

SUPERBLOCK can resist the fire for more than 4 hours which exceeds the standard.

SUPERBLOCK is an insulator that does not store the heat which makes the wall cooler, 6 times better than clay brick, which helps to save the electricity for air-conditioning up to 60 %.

SUPERBLOCK uses the technology from Germany. It can be cut at every 5mm thickness while others cut at every 25mm thickness.

SUPERBLOCK has the high sound transmission class (STC) rate of 40db while other brands can obtain not more than 38db. Better sound insulation that produces no echo. As a result, a room built with SUPERBLOCK would be quieter.

SUPERBLOCK can receive the side load more than G2. Thus the size and quantity of the column can be reduced from the stability which conforms to the mass and density of G4 level.

SUPERBLOCK can be nicely plastered, no crack problems occur from plastering work due to less water absorption rate producing only a little loss on plastering water rate. Only requires 10 mm. thick of plastering, which helps to reduce the plaster quantity up to 60%

SUPERBLOCK can easily be cut and placed 3 times quicker than clay brick.

SUPERBLOCK has been continuously developed, quality control and after sell services.

The company always takes care of its customers as promised and highly trusted in the quality and service. The manufacturer is the first and only Thai AAC manufacturer receives both TIS standard and ISO 9001.

The manufacturer has gathered the experience, information and techniques from both domestic and international projects for more than 16 years and obtained the certified test results from international laboratory, Singapore.

SUPERBLOCK has wide range of products and various sizes; for instance: block, lintel, beam, roof, staircase and load bearing wall.

When it comes to the energy preservation and environmental issue, SUPERBLOCK has been involved extremely in helping to decrease the usage of countrys limited natural

resources. Due to the fact that SUPERBLOCK uses merely 30% of raw material in the production process when compares to the clay brick or ordinary concrete, which uses fully 100% of raw material. As SUPERBLOCK is 3 times lighter than clay brick, it will reduce the usage of concrete and reinforces in the building structure, which can be considered as the reduction of the usage of the limited natural resources. As the result, we can preserve the scare natural resources for our next generations.

In the aspect of heat insulation, SUPERBLOCK is 6 times better than clay brick, which helps to reduce the usage of the air-conditioning system in the building. The usage of the electric energy in each house or building also will reduce greatly, which directly will help the owner saves the electric charges and will help to decrease countrys total electric energy usage as well.

To obtain the high quality product, the production process of SUPERBLOCK is checked as many as 18 points in order to meet the standard in accordance with the quality verification and production criteria. Thus, the use of the imitation materials, despite its low price advantage, cannot be compared with the standardized product in the respect of fire resistance quality, heat insulation quality and crack related problems.

Therefore, every time you decide to use lightweight concrete, make sure it is only

SUPERBLOCK, which receives 4th quality level, that will make your investment worthwhile on every single square meter.

II. ENGINEERING PROPERTIES OF AAC SUPERBLOCK

    1. DENSITY

The dry density of SUPERBLOCK is about 600-700 kg/m3 which is approximately two times lighter than water, four times lighter than concrete, and three lighter than fire clay brick.

    2. MODULUS OF ELASTICITY, E

The Modulus of Elasticity (E) of SUPERBLOCK lies within the range of 18,000 to 28,000 kg/cm2.

    3. COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH

The compressive strength of SUPERBLOCK is about 40-50 kg/cm2 for grade G4 and about 60-70 kg/cm2 for grade G6. This means that each unit of SUPERBLOCK (Size: 20x60x7.5 cm) can take at least 18 tons of compressive force.

    4. FIRE RATING

Non-load bearing wall built from 7.5 cm. thick SUPERBLOCK had the fore rating according to the British Standard: BS476 Part 22:1987 Fire Tests on Building material and Structures: Methods for determination of the fire resistance of non-load bearing elements for construction and to the Australian Standard: AS 3700:1988 equal 4 hours.

    5. SOUND INSULATION

STC (Sound Transmission Class) is an index, which is used to indicate the sound insulation capability of construction material, STC (Sound Transmission Class) for different types of SUPERBLOCK walls are give in Table 1.

Thickness of SUPERBLOCK wall Coating (if Applicable) STC 7.5 cm. 10 mm sand/cement render both sides 42 9 cm 10 mm sand/cement render both sides 43 9 cm./5 cm. Cavity/9 cm. None 44 9 cm./5 cm. 6. SOUND ABSORPTION

Sound Absorption Coefficient is an index used to indicate the sound absorption capability of construction material. This value is the ratio of sound energy that is absorbed at different sound frequencies. The Sound Absorption Coefficients of SUPERBLOCK at different mean frequency are given in Table 2.

    Mean Frequency (Hz) 125 250 500 1000 2000 4000

    Sound Absorption Coefficient of SUPERBLOCK 0.05 0.10 0.10 0.16 0.2 0.26

Table 2 - Sound Absorption Coefficient of SUPERBLOCK

    7. THERMAL RESISTANCE

The thermal resistance R of 7.5 cm-thick SUPERBLOCK wall is equal to 0.843 m2oC/W. This R value can then be used to calculate the rate of thermal transmission by following formula.

Rate of Thermal Transmission = RT

    R = Thermal Resistance (m2oC/W).

T = The difference between the inside and outside temperatures (oC)

For Vietnam and Thailand, the average outside temperature is 36oC and the comfortable inside temperature is 24 oC. Therefore, the proper value for T is 36-24 = 12 oC. From the above formula, the Rate of Thermal Transmission of SUPERBLOCK is 12/0.843 = 14W/m2.

    8. THERMAL EXPANSION COEFFICIENT

The Thermal Expansion Coefficient of SUPERBLOCK is about 8x106 10x106/ oC which is close to the Thermal Expansion Coefficient of concrete as shown in Table 3.

    SUPERBLOCK Fire Clay Brick Concrete

    Thermal Expansion Coefficient/ oC 8.0x10-6 10.0x10-6 4.6x10-6 9.5x10-6

    9. DRYING SHRINKAGE

The rate of the drying shrinkage depends of several factors, including type of mineral binding agent and the amount of ultra-fine pores in the material. The drying shrinkage of SUPERBLOCK when the moisture content (by weight) is reduced from 30% at the completion of the production process to an equilibrium moisture content of 5 7% at usage is about 0.2mm/m. As shown in Table 4, this value is much less than the drying shrinkage of concrete and fire clay brick. This is due to the fact that the autoclaving process during the production of SUPERBLOCK considerably reduces the amount of very fine (< 10 mm) pores.
