    DESCRIPTION

Polyglas® is a trade name for a range of banding tapes consisting of parallelglass plied yarns pre-impregnated with a special thermosetting polyester PEIbased resin. Polyglas® is available in the following grades:

Polyglas® P30: Class F (155°C) banding tape, used for banding rotors, overhangs and dry and oil filled transformer cores.Polyglas® H200: Standard Class H (200°C) moisture resistant bandingtape, used mainly for banding rotors, overhangs and dry and oil filled transformer cores.Polyglas® H220: Class C (220°C) moisture resistant banding tape, used mainly for banding traction rotors, collectors and overhangs.Polyglas® K220: Class C (220°C) moisture resistant banding tape, Kevlar® based, used mainly for bandingpermanent magnets rotors, high speed starters and whenever steep operative cycles or reduced spaces are required.

    APPLICATIONS

Polyglas® tapes are suitable for banding all kinds of motors rotors and overhangs and can be also used as abracing tape for tying form wound coils and for locking dry or oil filled transformer columns.

    PROCESSING

If the material has been refrigerated, allow to come to room temperature before removing from the plastic storage bag.Polyglas® tapes should be processed using a suitable tensioning device and applied with a maximum pull at a temperaturerange between 80 - 100oC and at a speed of around 10m/minute.This procedure is strongly recommended for those applications in which the purpose is to obtain at least the 60% ofpull as a residual tension in the cured band.A proper locking of the tape to secure the tension applied during banding must be performed through a hot iron in orderto fuse and fix the ends.To obtain a shiny surface after cure, it is suggested a masking procedure with either Hyperstrip® PF Release Film orVidatape® P/Vidatape® S woven polyester tapes. This allows a controlled flow of resin during cure, and avoids air bubblesor lumps forming on the banding tape surface.

*The above times do not include the time for the oven to reach the required temperature.Once any masking material is removed, any grinding operations must be strictly limited to the band surface, and only to afew tenths of mils.Specialist advice must be sought on suitable tools for machining Polyglas® K220 Kevlar based tape.
