Pipe end configurationsAll pipes tested according to EN 1366-3 have been tested with a specific pipe end configuration. In the fire classification, the first letter of the end configuration refers to the end conditions within the furnace (fire-side), the second letter to the end conditions outside the furnace (non-fire-side).

As the EN test standard EN 1366-3 states, “it is important to ensure that sealing systems have been tested with appropriate pipe end conditions.” The conditions the pipe and sealing system must endure in a fire situation depend on whether one or both ends of the pipe are sealed in practice, as pressures and the flow of hot gases will vary depending on whether the pipe is ventilated or not.

There are rules that determine which tested end configurations are valid for additional pipe end situations.

Pipe end configurations according to intended useAs previously stated, it is important to ensure that the tested pipe configuration corresponds to the intended use of the pipe.

The table below outlines recommended end configurations for various intended pipe uses as per suggestions laid out in EN 1366-3 2009 H.4.2.2. In the event that a national regulation conflicts with this table, the national regulation takes precedence.

Installation instructions

Seal the opening: The aperture around the pipe is filled with gypsum plaster (flexible walls) or cementitious mortar (concrete walls/floors) over the full thickness of the wall/floor or alternatively sealed with minimum 25 mm thick Hilti Firestop Acrylic Sealant CFS-S ACR on both sides. Backfilling with stone wool may be omitted in case of small annular gaps and classifications ≤ EI 120.In case of missing sound decoupling means around the pipe it is recommended to use Hilti Firestop Acrylic Sealant CFS-S ACR as annular gap seal. If gypsum plaster or cementitious mortar is intended to be used it is recommended to install a PE foam strip around the pipe over the entire wall or floor thickness for sound de coupling of the pipe.

Clean the plastic pipe. Remove all plaster/mortar or dust from the pipe in the area where the Firestop collar is to be installed.

Attach fastening hooks/tabs: The fastening hooks can be attached to various points of the metal housing. The hooks must be positioned as symmetrically as possible. The required number of fastening hooks is indi-cated below and on the packaging.

Fasten the Hilti Firestop Collar:a) Attach fastening hooks/tabs on the metal housing.b) Mark the fastening points on the wall/floor.c) Fasten the Hilti Firestop Collar, using recommended metal anchors/fasteners, e.g. Hilti HUS for rigid walls and

floors or threaded rod, nuts, washers in flexible walls. These are defined in the respective test reports and approvals.

d) If required by national prescriptions mark the penetration seal with an identification plate containing the re-quired information. In such a case fasten the identification plate in a visible position next to the seal.

Close the Hilti Firestop Collar: Place the Hilti Firestop Collar around the plastic pipe and apply firm pressure by hand until it latches with a "click" sound. No tools, pins or screws are necessary. The Hilti Firestop Collar can be re-opened by pushing down the engaged "tongue" with a screwdriver while pulling the Hilti Firestop Collar apart.

For wall applications: Repeat installation on the other side of the wall.

1. Flexible and rigid walls, minimum wall thickness 100 mm

The intended use of the Hilti Firestop Collar CFS-C is to reinstate the fire resistance of:

Flexible walls / drywalls (E) with a minimum thickness of 100 mm (tE), with timber or steel studs lined on both faces with a minimum of two layers of 12.5 mm thick boards. For timber stud walls there must be a minimum distance of 100 mm between the seal and any stud, and the cavity must be filled with a minimum of 100 mm insulation of Class A1 or A2 in accordance with EN 13501-1. Penetration seal consists of a single penetration in the wall with Hilti Firestop Collar CFS-C P (A1) on both sides. Annular gap filled with Gypsum plaster (A3) over the entire thickness of the wall or Hilti Firestop Acrylic CFS-S ACR Sealant (A2) on both sides with a depth of minimum 25 mm from the surface of the wall.

Rigid walls (E) consisting of comprise concrete, aerated concrete or masonry, minimum density of 450 kg/m3, minimum thick-ness 100 mm. Penetration seal consists of a single penetration in the wall with Hilti Firestop Collar CFS-C P (A1) on both sides. Annular gap filled with Gypsum plaster (A3) or cementitious mortar over the entire thickness of the wall or Hilti Firestop Acrylic Sealant CFS-S ACR (A2) on both sides with a depth of minimum 15 mm from the surface of the wall. The sealant may be back-filled with mineral wool.

Maximum opening diameter: the opening should not be larger than the collar outside diameter to allow safe fixing of the collar to the wall. Minimum distance between collars (s1): 0 mm. Firestop collar (A1) fastened by hooks (F) (minimum number of hooks: see installation instructions) in flexible wall / drywall and low density rigid wall with M8 threaded rods through the wall secured with nuts on both sides. In high density rigid walls, metal anchors may be used as an alternative (e.g. Hilti HUS). Sound decoupling strips (C1) based on PE foam, used in combination with gypsum plaster or mortar as gap filler. Sound decoupling installed around the pipe within the wall. 2. Rigid walls

The intended use of the Hilti Firestop Collar CFS-C is to reinstate the fire resistance of:

Rigid walls (E) consisting of comprise concrete, aerated concrete or masonry, minimum density of 650 kg/m3, minimum thickness 150 mm. Penetration seal consists of a single penetration in the wall with Hilti Firestop Collar CFS-C P (A1) on both sides. Annular gap filled with Gypsum plaster (A3) or cementitious mortar over the entire thickness of the wall or Hilti Firestop Acrylic Sealant CFS-S ACR (A2) with a depth of minimum 15 mm from the surface of the wall. The sealant may be backfilled with mineral wool.

Maximum opening diameter: the opening should not be larger than the collar outside diameter to allow safe fixing of the collar to the wall. Minimum distance between collars (s1): 0 mm. Firestop collar (A1) fastened by hooks (F) (minimum number of hooks: see installation instructions) in flexible wall / drywall and low density rigid wall with M8 threaded rods through the wall secured with nuts on both sides. In high density rigid walls, metal anchors may be used as an alternative (e.g. Hilti HUS, DBZ, HSA). Sound decoupling strips (C1) based on PE foam, used in combination with gypsum plaster or mortar as gap filler. Sound decoupling installed around the pipe within the wall. Annular gap filled either with gypsum plaster or cementitious mortar (A3) over the entire thickness of the floor or with mineral wool of minimum density 60 kg/m3 covered by Hilti Firestop Acrylic Sealant CFS-S ACR (A2) on top side (or on both sides) with a depth of minimum 10 mm.

Classifications EI 120 and lower (opening diameter up to 300 mm), classification EI 180 (opening diameter up to 260 mm): The opening diameter should not be larger than the collar outside diameter to allow a safe fixing of the collar to the floor. Classifica-tion EI 180 (opening diameter > 260 mm): see in tables below.

Minimum distance between collars/annular gap edge (s1): 0 mm.

Firestop collar (A1) fastened by hooks (minimum number of hooks: see instructions for use) with metal anchors (e.g. Hilti HUS, DBZ, HSA) on the underside of the floor (minimum ∅ 6 mm up to collar size 110/4" and ∅ 10 mm for higher collar sizes).

Installation instructions

Clean opening. Surfaces to which CFS-S ACR will be applied should be dry, cleaned of loose debris, dirt, oil, wax and grease. Use wire brushing for cleaning.

Notes on Cleaning:

• Surfaces with cured acrylic sealant can only be cleaned mechanically e.g. using a knife, but not with a solvent.

• Remove uncured sealant first mechanically then clean with water.

• CFS-S ACR cannot be completely cleaned off porous surfaces – joints may be taped off to avoid staining.

• Dispenser equipment and tools have to be cleaned if a work break lasts longer than approximately 20 minutes.

Insert backing material if required. Make sure proper backing material is used and compressed according European Technical Approval (see ETA Annex)

Apply CFS-S ACR using a dispenser.

CFS-S ACR adheres to most substrates (concrete, masonry, drywall, plaster, etc.) without using a primer. For best adhesion on porous substrates, use CFS-S ACR diluted with water as primer. Other primers are not necessary.

Smooth joint with water using a narrow spatula or finger.
