1. FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
The high temperature heat pump WP Max-HiQ is suitable for strongly varying source temperatures in the
range of 10 to 55 °C. The flexibility is achieved by a patented procedure, which enables the system to reach
the optimal operating point despite the changing source temperatures. Whereas the heat pump WP Max-
LoQ is suitable for source temperaturs lower than 15 °C. The maximum of the flow temperature of both
heat pumps amounts to 72 °C. The range of application of the heat pumps extends from sustainable district
heating networks or rather energy grids, to the usage of electricity from photovoltaiks, to the loading process
of large buffer storages, up to the usage as conventional water/water or brine/water heat pumps. Because
of speed regulations a wide range of utilisations ist covered and leads to the heat pumps being ideally suited
for the use of fluctuating energy quantities such as power from photovoltaic systems.
BENEFITS
• Usage of strongly varying sources possible
• High flexibility due to speed controlled inverter
operations
• Flow temperatures up to 72 °C possible
• Integrated energy management (Smart Grid
compliant)
• Easy installation due to a complete pre-
assembly in the factory, no need of a licence for
refrigeration
• With ratiotherm components it is a completely
coordinated, sustainable system.

6. ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION
6.1 NOTES
• The power supply of the heater is controlled by the control cabinet and it
has to be protected by a fault-current circuit breaker with a trip current of
not more than 30mA (RCD) and with the fitting power.
• The ground fault circuit interrupter for the heater has to be labeled
separatly (for example:“HP“). Please note the right wiring of phase/neutral
conductor.
• Observe the rotating field orientation (right turning).
• The machine has to be grounded.
• Use cable diameters fitting to the power of the heater.
• The electrical installation has to comply with the valid standards and the
generally accepted rules of engineering.
• Do not work on hydraulic or mechanical parts of the machine while under
voltage.
• The same applies to filling or subsequent pressurisation.
• Even if the main switch of the device is turned off, there will be voltage at
the cable clamp.
• To separate the device from the grid galvanically, the ground fault circuit
interrupter in the switch cabinet has to be turned off.
• Maintenance work can only be performed by authorised individuals.
• Never short-circuit the safety pressure limiter of the heat pump.

6.3 TERMINAL SCHEME AND DESCRIPTION
• Clamping range X1 is intended for the compressor and the electrical heating rod. Depending on the
power output (for example F06) a single-phase connection is possible. The connection is delivered with
bridges (electrical heating rod only active when the compressor is locked). The bridges can be removed
with a separate supply line.
• X2.2 is the output of a source pump. If this is already integrated in the housing, the clamping point is
omitted.
• X3.3 and X3.4 are processing the signal coming from the grid operator/energy supplier. The connection
from X3.3 to the power supply company is downward compatible.
• Wire this connection as a NO (normally open) contact (barrier aktive -> closed).

The ratiotherm heat pump WP Max-HiQ/LoQ possesses a complete refrigeration cycle and uses a source
circle as the primary energy source.
The refrigeration cycle is hermetically completed and consists of a rotary compressor (F06) or a scroll
compressor (F14, F21), a condenser (plate heat exchanger), an evaporator (plate heat exchanger) and an
electronical expansion valve, which controls the inflow of the refrigerant. The working fluid, which is used, is
the enviromentally friendly R134A.
The ratiotherm heat pump WP Max-HiQ/LoQ is shipped out ready for use. A further refrigeration commissioning
is not necessary.
The ratiotherm heat pump WP Max-HiQ/LoQ is operated by the controller RSM610 by the company Technische
Alternative. On a separate display you can find all parameters and operating states of the heat pump.
The heat pump WP Max-HiQ/LoQ is compatible with most of the electric radiators, gas and oil boilers.

27TU_D_WP_Max-HiQ_2020/05-bi - Errors and changes of all information, pictures and drawings remain reserved.Compliance with the generally valid and recognized rules of technology must be strictly adhered to!ATTENTION! Installation and wiring only by authorized specialists.
Control logic:
• The heat pump is requested using a potential-free, digital signal. Thereupon pumps and valves are
activated. After 45 seconds the compressor will be started.
• To avoid an unintentional start the enable signal is delayed by 10 seconds.
• When the device is activated, the minimum running time amounts to 5 minutes. An error turns off the
machine immediately.
• The reference speed of the compressor is able to be controlled by an external management tool with the
help of a 0-10 V signal.
• If there is no 0 - 10 V signal, the compressor will run with a constant, configurable speed (factory setting:
75 %).
• While starting the compressor, the running speed is limited. Only after 4 x 1.5 minutes the compressor
is accelareted to full speed.
• If the source temperature inside the evaporator falls below 11 °C for longer than one minute, the machine
will be shut down because of frost protection. If the evaporator temperature exceeds 55 °C, the starting
of the machine is prevented. When the temperatures are back to normal, the machine starts as usual.
• If the temperature on the source site falls below 8 °C, a frost protection malfuntion will be triggered and
the installation will be blocked for 7 minutes or will be locked completely after several malfunctions.
• The condensator pump controls deltaT between heating flow line and heating return flow (factory setting:
6 K).
• If the heating flow line temperature exceeds 69 °C, the pump will begin to raise the speed to prevent a
shut down.
• If the heating flow line temperature exceeds 72 °C, the machine will shut off automatically for 20 minutes.
If the temperature falls meanwhile, the installation will start after 20 minutes again.
• The evaporator pump controls deltaT between source entrance and exit (factory setting: 3 K).
• If an anomalie is detected (high pressure, low pressure, frost protection), an error will be triggered and
the installation will be blocked for 5 or 7 minutes. This can not be undone by the reset button! If the same
error arises three times within one hour, the heat pump will be locked. The reset button is able to undo
the lock!
• To preempt an anomaly, high pressure, low pressure and compressor temperature are observed and if
necessary, the speed is reduced for at least 8 minutes.

Recommended for systems with fixed system
resistance requiring a constant volume flow.
The pump runs in three prescribed fixed speed stages
(I, II, III).
NOTICE!
Factory setting:
Constant speed, pump curve III
External control via a iPWM signal
The required setpoint/actual value comparison for
control is performed by an external controller.
A PWM signal (pulse-width modulation) is fed as a
correcting variable to the pump.
The PWM signal generator gives the pump a periodic
sequence of impulses (the duty cycle) in accordance
with DIN IEC 60469-1.
Constant differential pressure Δp-c (I, II, III)

iPWM 1 mode (heating application):
In iPWM 1 mode, the pump speed is controlled
according to the PWM input signal.
Behaviour in the event of a cable break:
If the signal cable is separated from the pump, e.g. due
to a cable break, the pump accelerates to maximum
speed.
PWM signal input [%]> 5: Pump runs at maximum speed5 - 85: The speed of the pump decreases linearly
from nmax to nmin85 - 93: Pump runs at minimum speed (operation)85 - 88: Pump runs at minimum speed (starting)93 - 100: Pump stops (standby)
iPWM 2 mode:
In iPWM 2 mode, the pump speed is controlled
according to the PWM input signal.
Behaviour in the event of a cable break:
If the signal cable is separated from the pump, e.g. due
to a cable break, the pump stops.
PWM signal input [%]0 - 7: Pump stops (standby)7 - 15: Pump runs at minimum speed (operation)12 - 15: Pump runs at minimum speed (starting)15 - 95: The speed of the pump increases linearly from
