Purpose of the Technical Node (1)

Management of the completion of the inventory of resources available to European Planetary scientists

User Requirements from Science Cases:

- Collect and analyze N2 science cases, based on work done so far by the N7 group

- Complete the generation of the IDIS User Requirements

Coordinate development of design specifications of the Node Leading Institutes

- Define preliminary design rules for inter-operability

- Organize a workshop between the Node Leading Institute representatives to develop node- related User Requirements

- Coordinate the development of node-related design specifications


Purpose of the Technical Node (2)

Implementation of top-level Web-Interface

Define a preliminary data format for database-like queries

Build a Web-interface allowing simple queries by keywords

Access control according to rules to be defined in the design specifications

Implementation of an operational Web-based top-level search

Subject / keyword related forwarding to relevant nodes for further search

Multi-node keyword search according to node-related design specifications

Status

User Requirements Document

A sub-set of resources related to the selected Science Cases was collected by the thematic nodes by December 2008

A dedicated 2-day workshop was held in Graz end of January 2008

First version was compiled and delivered beginning of February 2008


Status

Coordination of design specifications development Regular phone conferences involving N7 coordinators and thematic node representatives were held to discuss activities.

As highest priority until January 2008 the support work for the User Requirements Document was organized in Graz

Web-interface design ideas were discussed and support information shared between the nodes. No identical looking interface is currently imposed

Preliminary definition activities for transition from current resource inventory to a SPASE- model related XML-database; work ongoing


Status

Technical Node Web ServerA web-server was established at the FMI computer center as a Linux-based virtual machine with dynamically extendable resources.
