TECHNOLOGIES

BY ROSS GLOVER

PADLETI used Padlet to get audience feedback on my different parts of planning and production stages. The application is easy to implement and users will simply click and type in a text box on the padlet about a specific section. This technology allowed me to easily get feedback on both of my ancillary products and I also used it on my concept ideas for the trailer. Overall this program was very easy to use and allowed me to get some quick and easy user feedback to help improve and structure my product,

SURVEY MONKEY

Another technology I used was survey monkey which allowed me to create surveys and connect them to my audience in order to get some more user feedback. By embedding the surveys on my blog other people could come onto the blog and complete the surveys if I prompted them with an email. Plus survey monkey allowed me to quickly analyze results in their data tab. Which meant I could quickly go onto that section of their website and look at my results.

EMAZEI have used the presentation software emaze in my evaluation stage because it allowed me to easily present my content comparison in a different format. It is much like PowerPoint which is what made it appeal to me and I wanted to do my content comparison to vary the different technologies I was using throughout my evaluation.

PREZIAnother good technology that I have used in my evaluation stages is Prezi. This is another presentation based application that simply allowed me to showcase some of my evaluation in an effective way because of its easy interface and tile based interaction. It is very interactive because upon viewing the prezi you kind of skip from tile to tile. The technology didn't’t really change the way I presented my work but it did give me a more interactive and fun way to work and display my content.

IMOVIEOne of the biggest technologies I have used throughout my planning and evaluation stages was IMovie. This is Apples video editing software that I used to create a content comparison video and also edit up some basic test shots to get an idea of using editing software and what my trailer could potentially look like. In IMovie it is easy to navigate and drag in different sections of your video by dragging in all your content from the bottom left or if you have imported it using the import button your clips and images will be near the top. As you can see in my screenshot here some of my content for Gibby is central, this is where my images are that I will use in my video. In the bottom left are some basic options like titles and sound effects. The editing process is a simple drag and drop method which is easy to use.

PHOTOSHOP

In this screenshot we can see my poster in Adobe Photoshop. This is one of the biggest programs I have used during my media production. I used the program to both create my drafts and then final ancillary work. Photoshop is extremely good for editing images but more importantly piecing them together. I used a range of tools for my ancillary pieces such as the quick selection tool which enabled me to edit out any background to my main images. For example I used this after I had taken the image of Gibby for both the poster and magazine. The tool allowed me to remove the background by simply highlighting the chosen area and deleting it. Also actions like adding in basic text and adding a drop shadow to text was made easy by using Photoshop. For example at the bottom of the poster there is some text that’s reads in theaters may 2. There is a drop shadow applied to this text which makes it look higher quality.

POWERPOINT+WORD

I used PowerPoint and Word for many of the different reports and formats throughout my planning and my evaluation. I have used PowerPoint in my evaluation to showcase the different elements of work I have completed. It is easy to use and provides a nice canvas in which to publish and show your work. It maybe isn’t showing a good use of different technologies but it is easy to display a message in a nice and presentable format. I would maybe use a different piece of software if I was re doing some of my coursework by using a more effective program that has more interaction and is easier for the user to read.
