During the process of this project, I have learnt a lot about different technologies.
For example, at the beginning of the course I could barely find the ‘on’ button on the
video camera. However, I have learnt many different techniques, such as camera shots
and angles, which I experimented with when
filming our film opening.
One particular camera shot I found effective was the handheld shot of Jessica, taken
from behind a wall, which is made to look like somebody is watching her. Not only does it raise enigmas, but the handheld
shot contrasts the other steady shots we used, which makes it clearer to the
audience that she is being watched.

I also learnt the importance of lighting within shots, and how these can
represent different moods or emotions of characters. We took a lot of the
shots more than once, experimenting with different shades of lighting which
ultimately helped us decide what looked best.
I especially liked the shots of Jessica sitting on the floor turning the lamp on and off. This reflected Jessica’s mood,
as well as created an eerie atmosphere, adding to the suspense
and genre.

Most importantly, I learnt how to use an apple Mac, and the effects that can be used. During our opening shots, there are three effective
close up shots of Jessica’s belongings.
In order to make these shots flow, we used the ‘fade in’ and ‘fade out’
tools on the Mac, which made these shots overlap each other so they
did not break the continuity.

Furthermore, I learnt how to edit sound effects and music on the apple Mac, and got to experiment with different
volumes, which I made rise and fall at particular moments to create
suspense.
For example, our chosen non-diegetic music is sometimes louder or quieter in moments, and sometimes not there at all. This was all specially edited by our group so that emphasis was put
on different moments. We also learnt how to do a non-diegetic voiceover,
using the microphone installed in the apple Mac.
