That is why questions regarding the product, batch size and framework conditions are of central importance to KUKA  Industries. From process validation and prototype construction to contract manufacturing, KUKA Industries supports you in the development and production of compo-nents and assemblies. We use our in-depth understanding of processes, accompanied and supported by testing, to choose the most appropriate process for your applications from a technological and economical point of view.

This way, you can be certain that the best solution will be created for you from our wide range of technologies and components.

Competence and experience in both thin sheet and thick plate applications. The choice of welding technology is made in close consulta-tion with the customer and on the basis of the application definition. Depending on the specific requirements, various technologies are possible:

• MIG / MAG welding• TIG welding• Submerge arc welding• Cladding• Plasma welding• Plasma cutting• Oxyacetylene cutting

KUKA Industries supplies complete welding lines for all com-monly-used welding processes, including linking. On request, the lines can contain all process components, such as power source, torch system, positioner and fixtures, as well as set-up support all from a single source.

Advantages

• Integrated process and quality monitoring for process reliability

• Sensor systems (seam locating, seam tracking and gap detection) for best quality

• Integrated multiple-axis transformation for optimal component processing

• Highly accurate robot and peripheral modules for challenging tasks

Anyone in metalworking today knows that to remain competitive production must be of the highest quality and highly efficient.

KUKA Industries offers a wide range of automation components, function packages and cells as standard products. Their modular designs allow them to be flexibly adapted to specific requirements.

Due to increasing competition and ever greater demands on production, automation is a central topic in modern manufac-turing – KUKA has addressed this issue with the development of the modular welding cell KUKA flexibleCUBE arc. As a first step into automation or as a manufacturing extension to existing automation systems – the KUKA flexibleCUBE arc can be simply and seamlessly integrated into the manufacturing process.

Targeted planning, fast integration, intuitive operator control and simple maintenance – that is how sustainable process reliability works. The compact cell can be combined with service-proven welding equipment available on the market from various leading manufacturers and equipped with a wide range of positioning units with the result that it can be per-fectly adapted to the specific production volume and welding requirements. Hardware and software options complete the all-rounder. Automation has never been easier.

Advantages

• The cell is pre-assembled and pre-installed and can therefore be easily and smoothly integrated into your production

• Utilization of state-of-the-art robot and control technologies

• No assembly and short re-commissioning times mean that the cell is ready for operation immedi-ately, thus reducing unnecessary downtime

SoftwareVarious software options for component measurement, offline programming, process data monitoring and much more.

Operator control and visualization SoftwareOperator control and visualization software fully integrated in the robot controller simplifies the operation of the welding cell: A setup wizard guides the operator through setup of the workpieces and fixture. The production overview shows statistical data relating to the production process, the current job, consumption figures and much more besides. Service and maintenance displays, operating and maintenance instruc-tions available online and the remote maintenance assistant increase the availability of the system.

Automatic torch cleaningFor automatic cleaning of the torch to remove weld spatter in freely programmable cycles with a rotating cutter.

Automatic TCP check Automatic, electronic program correction in up to five dimensions. The robot path is corrected automati-cally. The tool is thus always in the correct position.

From simulation through to the fixtureWith the positioners and clamping fixtures designed and manufactured in house, KUKA is always focused on the latest developments for its customers. The fixtures are ideally suited to automation applications and are user-friendly in conjunction.

Advantages

• Coordinated down to the very last detail• Manual, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment• Monitoring and control of all important functions by means

of BUS technology• Integrated robot axes for freely programmable repositioning

Our sensor systems for welding applications ensure high product qualityIndustrial settings with frequent extreme loads require adapted performance concepts. Sensors for position and state monitoring in critical areas ensure a constant performance capacity throughout the service life.

Seam locating and tracking with process adaption

• Seam locating (tactile) –Welding wire or electrodes –Gas nozzle or contact ring –Search probe

• Seam tracking –Through-the-arc sensor –Camera system for air gap and cross-section detection –Parameter regulation

We have the right solution, even for large workpiecesThe workspace of the robot can be enlarged with a variety of linear axis systems according to the customer-specific compo-nent requirements. The gantry is particularly predestined for arc, resistance and laser welding applications, as well as for adhesive bonding and general machining tasks.

Even with the largest workpieces, the gantry offers the utmost precision and synchronized path control, as all known positioning sensors can be integrated. All axes of the gantry and the installed robots form an integrated unit. The program-ming and operator control is thus also effective and simple in this dimension.

Different variants are available as a modular system. This allows cost-effective multi-process solutions e.g. spot welding, laser welding, gluing, finishing, deburring using a tool changer system.

Multiple manufacturing processes can thus be combined in a complete production system:

• Spot welding• Arc welding• Stud and nut welding• Adhesive bonding• Marking / engraving• Component calibration• Quality control• Component handling
