teacher. As a TOTD students will explain one element of a short story and provide an example to
share with the class.

the presentation students will read a short story (any short story would work) by Dr. Seuss, The
Sneetches. Teacher will guide students on determining plot and conflict from the story by letting
students work in pairs and using questions methods. As a summarizer one student from each pair/
group will share their findings with the class.
Wednesday- Students will view a presentation on Determining Theme. Students will add this
information to their notes. Then they will reread the short story from the previous day, and work in the
same pairs to determine theme. If time is available students will begin working on The Breakaway
worksheet for practice.
Thursday- Students will begin/ finish working on The Breakaway worksheet. Once students finish,
they can work in groups to go over the worksheet OR teacher can work with a small group while other
students work independently. Students will submit this worksheet as a graded assignment.
