What is appropriate?
-remember you are the parent
-create family rules (together)
-homework shouldn’t take longer
-are they really just consuming?
-we know what is best for them
-disconnecting doesn’t necessarily mean no technology

Further questions/commentsQ1. What is SSB’s vision? This plan does not seem so advanced?
A1. The current Strategic Plan stretches through 2013. The focus of this 3 yr plan was to ”catch up” SSB and equip teachers with the hardware and skills needed to move forward. The 2013-2015 Strategic Plan will be developed in August 2012.
Q2. How will SSB create a balance between online/screen learning and freetime/outside play?
A2. The balance is tricky. We will focus on continuous dialogue between students/parents/staff to find the right balance in each learning situation. SSB staff recognize that for our students there are not two ”sides” of life, but for us (adults) we have a different perspective – we recognize and acknowledge this.
Q3. Does the administration/school decide which technologies each teacher/class should use?
A3. No. According to our curricula and our beliefs, students and teachers decide together which methods they will use to achieve the goals. These choices are published on our Period Plans and montiored by pedagogical leadership.

Further questions/commentsQ4. Does SSB teach programing? Would SSB consider teaching programming as a Wednesday Workshop option?
A4. Only slightly in middle school math courses through logic. Yes, that is possible.
Q5. Why did SSB choose to start with Class 6, why not start from Class 1?
A5. Originally, we started with a tradtional model focusing on older students because we recognized that most of our older students have their own computers and we wanted to be able to fully use that tool. We recognize there is a huge benefit for younger learners as well. We will be moving our stationary machines to the Sports Hall for those students – they, too, will work in a 1-to-1 environment, but will not carry laptops back and forth to school.
Q6. What other devices is the school considering for use?
A6. SSB will pilot a classroom set of iPads with younger learners. SSB will also pilot hybrid laptops (with writing screens) for mathematics teachers in 2012-2013.
