Education Technology Leadership (CETL) Study Program
On Monday, October 31, 2016, Jay Johnson, John Crumbley, and Rodney White focused on Ethics and
Policies as part of the Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL) program. Frankie Jackson is facilitating a
National Certified Education Technology Leadership (CETL) study group with the Consortium of School
Networking (CoSN). Frankie asked members of our leadership team to participate in the study in an effort to
promote the certification and expand the leadership capabilities of the team. Expanding the participation to the
leadership team is in alignment with our cross training and succession planning efforts.

On Tuesday, November 1, 2016, Frankie Jackson met with Oscar
Villar, Polly Gifford (EPS), Mike Raspet, Andrew Tran, Greg
Rhodes, and Paula Ross to discuss the following topics:
• Building out of the fiber network in the Bridgeland area
(Southwest side of the district)
• Completing the redundancy fiber links. There are areas of the
district that are vulnerable for a fiber cut where there isn’t a
redundant network connection path
• Considering Internet peering with a direct connection straight to
Microsoft and Google and Internet 2.
• Bidding Internet services as our ICTX contract will be up in 2017
• Assessing the e-rate schedule for requesting reimbursements
for Internet, new schools, and redundancies in fiber links.
As a result, the following RFPs will be
solicited with a plan to go to the
February 2017 board meeting for
approval.
• RFP #1 Internet Services,
Peering options, and Internet 2
• RFP #2 Fiber connections for
redundancy
• RFP #2a Fiber connections for
new schools
• RFP #3 Network electronics for
new schools

Report to the Long Range Planning Committee
On the 2014 Bond Technology Infrastructure
Frankie Jackson participated in a meeting on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. with the Long
Range Planning Committee members to review the progress of the 2014 Bond Referendum. She was at the
meeting to specifically address the technology infrastructure component of the Bond. A copy of the
presentation is here. Frankie was proud to see the technology infrastructure component of the bond be
highlighted first, as shown page pages 3-6. Committee members expressed their gratitude for staying on
course and accomplishing a great amount of work in a small period of time. The presentation was well
received!
Frankie Jackson confirmed and filled 2015-2016 E-Rate funding reimbursements
with ESC12 E-Rate Works, the district’s E-Rate consulting firm, to certify and
request funds to be transferred to the district from the Universal Service
Administrative Company (USAC). A total of $963,734.42 is scheduled to be
released to the district within the next month.
The following table shows a breakdown of the services that are refundable. The
entire team is to be commended for these district savings. In particular, Katie
Hernandez is instrumental in making sure all of the paperwork is appropriately filed.
This is a monumental effort and Katie’s work is greatly appreciated!

Frankie Jackson met with executive staff from Clever on
Wednesday, November 3, 2016. Clever provides a software
solution that gives school districts the ability to setup a single
student roster for access with id/password synchronization.
Their ability to easily integrate with software applications
automatically offers teachers one-click logins and access to
their available software.
Currently the district uses Clever to integrate with several
applications like Achieve 3000, Stoneware, and several
textbooks. There may be greater potential in the future.

There are many highlights to reflect on last
week starting with the report to the Long
Range Planning committee. I was so proud to
see the technology infrastructure component of
the bond be highlighted first. Committee
members expressed their gratitude for staying on course
and delivering what we said we would, and accomplishing a
great amount of work in a small period of time. Then there
was signing for $963K of e-rate funding returns and working
with our transformation teams for improvement. I am so
grateful for every member of our team. – Frankie Jackson
