Engineering Students will have an understanding of problem-solving skills using engineering conceptsand processes. Information/Communication Technology Students will have an understanding of a wide range of information data systems that are used across many discipline areas:

• Global Positioning System & Flight Simulation – upon request (4 Modules with 3 laptops per module)

3D Printers• 3D Printers allow rapid testing of ideas in minutes and hours instead of

days or months. Teachers and students are capable of learning andteaching key engineering and science based topics easily by printing-outlearning aids. Now, instead of simply talking about how the foot isconnected to the leg, teachers can physically show it and have it fullyfunctional model. Students can print out and test their designs to see whatchanges they need to make to improve their design. This increases thelearning aspect by trial and error, and gets the students actively thinkingabout what they’ve learned in the classroom. 3D Printers createprofessional-quality, high-resolution prototypes and complex models, andcreate realistic prototypes and models for demonstrations andpresentations.

• The 3D Printer Module uses Autodesk Inventor Pro software (freedownload) which is pre-loaded on laptops that accompany the module.

• Each school will receive the MakerBot 3D Printer during the regularrotation; the Mojo and Afinia 3D printers are available upon request.

Alternative EnergyHydrogen, Solar & Wind Trainers

• Hydrogen - Fuel Cell Trainer: Students experiment using an electrolyser and fuel cell. All the required electronics and metering are included together with a base.

• Solar Energy Trainer: A collection of photovoltaic cells, circuit modules, and instrumentation with a platform are suitable for classroom demonstrations.

• Wind Energy Trainer: Demonstrate on a tabletop scale the conversion of energy from wind to electricity. The wind power plant generator (turbine) can be setup with different blade configurations, and the source of airflow is adjustable. All required circuit modules and measuring instruments are included.

– All components are fitted in a custom carrying case for storage and easy transport. – The module also contains the following kits: Build a Motor, Shake Flashlight, Parallel &

Series Circuitry, Hydrogen Car, Watts Up, and Marble Roller Coaster.– This alternative energy unit is 20 days/4 weeks long. It has been developed as a hands-

on unit and is to be used with the alternative energy modules purchased by the consortiums. Each week has a theme.

Bio Technology

• The Bio Tech science kits help students to develop an understanding of some of the basic scientific principles involved with DNA.

• Crime Scene Investigating includes crime scene and suspect samples using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to simulate DNA profiling as commonly used in forensic laboratories.

• DNA Fingerprinting uses real DNA as evidence and your students play the role of crime scene investigator to figure out answers for themselves, in a real-life “who done it” scenario.

• Using the pGlo Bacterial Transformation kit, students are introduced to transformation, cloning, protein chromatography, and electrophoresis. In the activity students transform bacteria by introducing a gene from the bioluminescent jellyfish.

Dye-Sublimation

• The Dye-Sublimation Printer is a computer printer which employs a printing process that uses heat to transfer dye onto materials such as a plastic, card, paper, or fabric. The module comes with a t-shirt, cap, plate, and mug press to create personalized creations that can be worn by the students. Marketing and business education skills can be incorporated into this module if schools want to create items for resale (school logo items, for example).

• Individual schools are responsible for purchasing specific materials, paper and ink as needed.

Embroidery (ComD) Machines

• The Embroidery modules consist of a computerized sewing machine for students to complete graphic designs. New in 2015 is the Bernina E16, Multi Thread Embroidery Machine!

• Students can use designs provided, or bring in their own designs and make projects such as embroidered shirts, towels, caps, etc.

• Marketing and business education skills can be incorporated into this module if you want to create items for resale (school logo items, for example).

• Individual schools are responsible for purchasing specific thread colors and materials as needed.

Color Graphic ProductionSP-300i VersaCAMM; PC50 ColorCAMM1;

GX-24 Desktop Vinyl Cutter

• The VersaCAMM® creates colorful decals, labels, banners, posters, vehicle and floor graphics, apparel decoration and just about any sign imaginable. Its 30” media base uses 4-color printing and contour cutting.

• The GX-24 Desktop vinyl Cutter will cut vinyl, paint mask, reflective vinyls, twill, heat transfer, and sandblast material. CutStudio software allows users to enlarge, reduce, re-position, rotate and mirror images.

• The PC50 ColorCAMM uses direct color printing (cassette ink tapes) onto standard signage vinyl and cuts vinyl.

• These modules come with laptops and software installed on them. Corel Draw is the design software that is used with them.

• A T-shirt press for making designs on T-shirts is available for these modules.

Laser Engraver• Precision lasers deliver the highest quality laser engraving

performance on a wide variety of materials including wood, leather, glass, plastics, acrylic, marble, metals, rubber, fabric and more.

• One Laser Engraver with three laptops are included in the rotation.

• Corel Draw is used as a design software and 1-Touch Laser Photo is used to prepare any photographic image for engraving. These are pre-loaded on the laptops.

Electronics/Residential Wiring

• The Electronics module is for students who are having a first learning experience with electricity and electronics.

• These modules come with an Exploratory Electronics Laboratory Workstation consisting of electronic parts, teacher manuals, reproducible student workbooks, and teaching software to guide instruction of the learning module. Software must be loaded onto a school’s local computer.

• The Residential Wiring module is an introductory 10-unit course where students consider the many factors of wiring new circuits in the home.

• Topics such as safety, wiring techniques, wire gauge selection, coaxial cables, telephone wire, service panels, circuit breakers, and the National Electrical Code are discussed.

• Students gain practical experience wiring switches, outlets, light fixtures, doorbells, phone jacks, and cable TV connectors.

Fuel Cell Car Kits

• With this kit, students build a model car that runs on water and sunlight using a unique reversible hydrogen fuel cell.

• A large solar cell is used to create electrolysis which separates water into hydrogen and oxygen and the resulting energy is stored as a gas. When needed, the gas is fed into the fuel cell, which then serves as the power source.

• There are 18 complete kits of which you may request any amount. Distilled water and a 75-watt incandescent light bulb to power the solar panel if not outdoors using sunlight.

Global Positioning System

• These modules are designed to introduce students to navigation and GPS. It includes hand held GPS receivers, Saitek Pro Flight simulators, and software to be loaded on school’s PC’s.

• Ten GPS receivers are included in each module and are used for Geocaching and/or scavenger hunts which are outdoor sporting activities in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver to seek containers left by other enthusiasts.

• Two Saitek Pro Flight yoke systems and software are included in each module. The Saitek Pro Flight Yoke System is engineered to meet the exacting needs of the true flight simulation enthusiast.

• There are many activities included in this module to help students understand mapping, geography and navigation.

Hydraulics: Fundamental Fluid Power Trainers

• The Lab-Volt Fundamental Fluid Power Trainer (FFPT) is an introductory training program in basic fluid power concepts, using hydraulic and pneumatic devices and circuits.

• The FFPT includes two instructional modules, and a correlated, 2-volume courseware set. The courseware set guides students through discussions and practical exercises with step-by-step procedures in key topics related to fluid power.

• Clear plastic components and a transparent cabinet top allow for visual inspection and observation.

Virtual Welders• The Virtual Welding simulator enables students to

master basic welding skills and learn proper technique in a safe, virtual environment. By using these educational tools, welding students will learn correct welding form and positioning, while instructors are more available to provide individualized instruction and increase the safety of their learning environment.

• The Virtual Welder offers a game-like interface that engages students in a way they are accustomed to; it has immediate feedback on skills and weld quality; the repetitive play improves muscle memory learning and is an excellent distance learning aid that allows students to practice remotely and come in for physical assessments periodically.

• With 450 practice exercises, it allows for self-paced exploration. The printed assessments provide immediate feedback and diagnostics. It is an excellent cognitive learning tool and is an opportunity for teachers to require mastery before releasing students to the shop floor.

• TLC offers paid training and in-services to the teachers who use our equipment in their classes.

• Training may be in a group setting (usually twice a year) or individualized.

• Curriculum activities and coaching are available on-site.
