Hettich, the family-owned company

Hettich's history is defined by outstanding engineering achievements and bold enterprising decisions. Developing a purpose-built machine, Karl Hettich in 1888 mechanised the production of anchor escapements for Black Forest cuckoo clocks. When August Hettich developed a production line for piano hinges in 1928, he was treading new technical terrain, setting the course for the group's present activities in the furniture industry.

Taking a tremendous gamble in 1930, Paul, August and Franz Hettich set up a new company in Herford. The move to East Westphalia-Lippe took the Swabian brothers to the heart of the German furniture industry. We have been developing and producing technology for furniture for over 100 years.

The company group is wholly owned by the Hettich family, and with Dr. Andreas Hettich taking over at the helm in 2005, the company's management entered its fourth generation.

We make sure drawers open and close gently and quietly. They even respond to a light press on the furniture front. Our technology also conveniently and reliably moves hinged doors. Perfectly controlled, large and heavy sliding doors gently glide to the side in response to a nudge. That's technology for furniture with a veritable feel-good factor. Developed and produced to the highest standard.

Acting today with a thought for tomorrow

We assume responsibility for the world we live in. With remarkable success. We regard statutory provisions as minimum requirements. At significant sites, for example, we also implement the stringent EMAS Directive. And we drive forward developments that in future will help to save even more raw materials and support the necessary endeavours towards sustainability.

The best examples are the Hettich Forum and the new facility for producing our new ArciTech drawer system. The Hettich Forum as office and exhibition building has received the National Green Building Award. The new production building's primary energy requirement is 73 per cent lower than limits set by the German Energy-Saving Regulation.
