In Nigel’s presentation he speaks of the continuous struggle to balance a successful career while raising a family or having a full life.

“I’d like all of you to pause for a moment, you wretched weaklings, and take stock of your miserable existence.” Nigel used this quote from St. Bennedict to lead into the topic of life and how to balance it.

Nigel Marsh would use relatable stories of his personal life in order to better connect with his audience. He would share personal stories of his wife and kids and would continue to provide an input of what his ideal “balanced” day consists of.

Dynamism Rating 4/5While Nigel did maintain a steady speech and properly conveyed his argument he did fall short in strength on some points and I even found myself distracted at times.

Nigel follows some tips by Nancy Duarte and Garr Reynolds in that he customized his content for the audience. It was an issue everyone in the room was most likely struggling with. He also left the audience feeling smarter and inspired. It let me realize that Only I can make the necessary change to balance my life.

I realized something interesting while watching Nigel’s speech and that was that a bit of humor goes a long way. His genius use of humor every now and then kept me immersed in the topic and highly interested in what he had to say.

Much like Sir Robinson Nigel is very passionate about his topic and used personal stories in order to better relate to the audience. He used comedy to keep the audience’s attention and keep them interested in the topic.

What can I teach you?

A bit of comedy goes a long way. The use of some subtle jokes every now and then makes a huge impact. Make sure to connect with the audience. Share some stories that everyone can relate to.
