What is TED?

TED is an annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers are

invited to share what they are most passionate about

“TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas

that are shaping our future

Past speakers include Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul

Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono

TED was first held in Monterey, California, in 1984 and it now takes place at Long

Beach, California and in Edinburgh, Scotland

What is TED?

Between June 2006 and July 2007, over 700 TEDTalks have been made

available on-line for free on TED.com

By January 2009, they had been viewed 50 million times. By June 2011, they had

been viewed 500 million times and this number is growing every day


What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx,

where x = local, self-organised TED-like events

At a TEDx event, TEDTalks videos and live speakers combine to spark deep

discussion that bring people together to share a TED-like experience

TEDx events are non-profit and organised by volunteers with a passion for their

communities and “ideas worth spreading”

It’s a global phenomenon: by January 2012, 3190 TEDx events had been held in

over 800 cities around the world.


What is TEDxPlainpalais?

Moved by a common passion for TED and its power of spreading ideas, a

group of 9 like-minded individuals have decided to take the challenge to

organize TEDx in Geneva.

Leveraging the fact that the official TEDx Geneva will not be held in 2013,

TEDx Plainpalais aims to be the most important TEDx in town.

We aim of getting at least 2 of our talks included in the main TED.com

platform (less than 2% of all TEDx talks are selected).


Our theme for the event is: “The Power of One – The impact an individual can

have, overcoming the barrier of –I’m just a drop in the Ocean-”

The event will be held on 19 February 2013 at the Salle Centrale de la Madeleine

We will host 150 selected guests from the worlds of technology, entertainment,

design, business, government and education, from Geneva and beyond

There will be approx 12 over a whole afternoon and evening with plenty of time to

discuss.

All talks will be recorded and released on our website, a dedicated YouTube

channel and on tedxtalks.ted.com

on how are they having an impact on the World.
