Births to Teens Are Concentrated in Areas with the Highest Concentrations of Poverty

South Atlanta and Spalding, Carroll, Bartow, Newton, Walton, Dekalb, and Clayton counties have the highest teen birth rates.
These areas also have some of the highest rates of poverty in the metro area.

Overall Teen Birth Rates are on the Decline…
Teen birth rates have declined in all metro counties from 2001-2003 to 2011-2013. Metrowide, the teen birth rate has declined from 40.7 to 27 births per 1,000 population. Still, some counties continue to have high teen birth rates—Spalding County in particular has a teen birth rate of 63.2.
