We pride ourselves on our commitment to safety, cleanliness and customer service. Please take note of the following important information:

Disabled accessAt each resort there are slipways to the beach. These can be used for disabled access or pushchair use, however they maybe steeper than designated disabled access and you may need assistance.

DogsTeignbridge District Council welcomes responsible dog owners to all of our beaches, however there are restrictions in force during the summer season. Please refer to the resort maps and signage. Guide Dogs and Hearing Dogs are exempt. Please help to keep our beaches beautiful and clean up after your dog.

Lifeguard serviceTeignbridge District Council are working in partnership with the RNLI, offering a lifeguard service on some of our beaches. Please see useful contact numbers and websites for further details on service dates.

Dawlish WarrenDawlish Warren prides itself on being one of the UK’s finest beach resorts. Here you’ll find a long beach, flanked by distinctive sand dunes and an internationally recognised nature reserve. The Warren is designated as a Special Area of Conservation and boasts a wide variety of coastal habitats, supporting over 600 different species of flowering plants in the dune grassland. The sand spit creates an important saltmarsh for wildlife and seals have even been spotted.

DawlishDawlish beach is a short walk from the town centre and extends all the way to Red Rock at Dawlish Warren. From the beach you can take a boat or fishing trip around the bay where you may be lucky enough to spot some dolphins.

ShaldonShaldon beach gently shelves towards the estuary mouth with views over Teignmouth and Dartmoor. The beach can be accessed via one of the oldest passenger ferries from Teignmouth, and is perfect to watch all the fisherman and boats in the estuary.

Ness Cove, Shaldon

The Ness Cove lies at the foot of the magnificent Ness Headland at the mouth of the Teign Estuary. Access is via an original smugglers tunnel to a secluded and picturesque sandy beach.

Coryton CoveCoryton Cove lays nestled between the red cliffs of Dawlish and is located within easy walking distance from the town. This lovely beach is ideal for families wanting to escape from the crowds and perfect for exploring rock pools and fishing for mackerel off the breakwater.

Know Your Flags?

RED AND YELLOW flags indicate the area patrolled by lifeguards. These are the safe areas to swim, body board and use inflatables.

The RED flag indicates danger. NEVER enter the water when the red flag is flying, under any circumstances.

BLACK AND WHITE CHEQUERED flags indicate an area zoned by lifeguards for use of watercraft such as surfboards and kayaks. Never swim or body board in these areas.

The ORANGE windsock indicates offshore wind conditions. You should NEVER use an inflatable when the sock is flying.

If you see someone in difficulty, never attempt a rescue. Tell a lifeguard or call 999 and ask

for the Coastguard.

Water Users GuideBoat Launching

Launching facilities for watercraft are available at Polly Steps and Gales Hill in Teignmouth. Launching fees are not charged however charges for the parking of cars and trailers do apply at Polly Steps.

Watercraft

To protect the safety of swimmers, watercraft are not allowed between the yellow marker buoys and the shoreline at any of our resorts. Access is permitted to Teignmouth, Shaldon and Dawlish beaches and is only allowed through the designated access lanes marked out by the yellow marker buoys.

Personal Watercraft Registration Scheme

Personal watercraft (jet skis) are prohibited in the estuary but may proceed from the public slipways of Gales Hill and Polly Steps to the sea between sunrise and sunset, subject to first obtaining a permit from the Harbour Office or from Polly Steps car park.
