Camp TEKO is located on more than 18 acres of beautiful shoreline property on the North Arm Bay of Lake Minnetonka. For over 50 years, Temple Israel has provided a safe, educational, and fun Jewish camping experience for children. Camp TEKO is a place where campers and staff make new friends, learn new skills, gain independence and explore their Jewish identity while enjoying the beautiful outdoors including gorgeous Lake Minnetonka. Accredited by the American Camp Association, Camp TEKO offers day camp for children who are entering kindergarten through 8th grade, as well as overnight camp programs for children entering 2nd through 6th grade. Campers spend the summer swimming and boating on the lake, learning new sports, using their creative skills in omanut (art), learning about Judaism, and singing as a community. Nurturing counselors and skilled specialists create a magical atmosphere for children to make meaningful memories and become mensches.

We are excited for you to join us for a great summer at TEKO!

TRANSPORTATION

The camp day begins on the bus! Camp TEKO provides safe and reliable bus service to and from camp each day. A TEKO bus captain and other trained staff ride the bus with the campers, where they lead games to make the ride a fun part of camp. Campers ride buses from centrally-located bus stops, allowing convenient locations for campers to be picked up and dropped off daily. Pick-up times are between 8:20 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. and drop-off times are between 3:50 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. Bus information will be sent during the registration process and will include the specific times for each stop.

The TEKO Bus Cup is a weekly favorite: each bus competes in dances, cheers, tzedakah (righteous giving), costumes, and ruach (spirit) to win the bus cup trophy for the week.

ACTIVITIES

Each day, campers participate in five different chugim (activities) where they explore their talents and develop new skills with their friends and counselors. At TEKO, Hebrew, Judaics, and Jewish culture are integrated into all facets of the campers’ day, whether performing skits about Jewish holidays, creating Judaic art pieces, or playing games with Israeli staff. Chugim are planned for campers by specialists, with experience and passion in their given field, who provide age-appropriate games and activities for camper groups.

Camp TEKO campers go with their group to each of their chugim. Chugim include sports, s’chiya (swimming), teva (nature), sirot (boating), drama, rikud (dance), muzika (music), Tarbut Yisrael (Israeli culture), omanut (arts and crafts) and tikkun olam (repairing the world). This summer, we are piloting “Giborim Choice,” in which 4th through 6th grade campers get to spend two afternoons per week at a chug of their choice: omanut (arts and crafts), sirot (boating), or sports.

T–TERM ENTERING K – 8 Campers who attend the T–Term specialty week of TEKO sign up for a five-day camp experience. Campers will choose two specialty chugim to learn from professionals in their relevant fields. Some of the chugim include water activities, Jewish cooking, and science. In addition to specialty chugim, each camper will swim and boat on the lake during the week.

GIBORIM ENTERING GRADES 2 – 6 ONE-NIGHT OVERNIGHTDuring session aleph, bet, and gimel, campers entering 2nd through 6th grades have the opportunity to stay at Camp TEKO for one night at no additional charge! This provides a chance for campers to try sleeping in a cabin for their first time. Sign up information will be sent during the summer session.

ALEPH, BET, GIMEL ENTERING K – 6

TEKO welcomes campers entering kindergarten through 6th grade to our Monday through Friday day camp program. Campers start their day at the TEKO bus stop, where they are greeted by friendly and enthusiastic staff who ensure campers are welcomed from the moment they arrive. After a ruach-filled ride to camp filled with songs and games, all TEKO campers gather to begin the day with Hebrew songs, prayers, and connecting with their group. Next, campers go with their groups to the first three chugim. Each day, campers experience different chugim, ensuring that they are able to experience all that TEKO has to offer. Campers join back together to enjoy their home-packed lunches as a community before the final two chugim of the day. TEKO campers gather once again at the end of the day to sing and say goodbye for the afternoon. Campers then proceed to their buses where they receive a snack and reflect on their day with counselors and friends on the ride home!

WORKING AT TEKO

AVODAH The Avodah program is a unique volunteer program for students entering 9th and 10th grades. This program begins teaching leadership skills to participants who may continue on to be TEKO staff members. Avodah participants enjoy various leadership workshops with guests and assist in enhancing our camp by working on the facilities, in the kitchen, and in specialty areas. They will gain an understanding of and appreciation for all that goes into making Camp TEKO successful! The Avodah participants build their own community and create lasting friendships while working to support the camp experience for all. Avodah participants are selected through an application and interview process.

STAFF Camp TEKO staff members are carefully selected individuals entering 12th grade or older. Prior to the summer, staff members are trained in child development, safety procedures, group dynamics, programming, and more. Each year, experienced staff return to work at camp, many of whom are former TEKO campers. They are eager to provide a new generation of children with the same great Jewish camping experience that they had. Our campers also have the opportunity to enhance their experience with Israeli staff members. We are proud of our counselors’ dedication to TEKO. They create a safe and fun environment where children are able to feel happy and go out of their comfort zones.

MACHONStudents entering 11th grade are eligible to participate in Camp TEKO’s junior counselor program. The Machon program involves extensive training in leadership skills, communication, and camp programming, while creating lifelong friendships in the process. Participants spend their mornings learning from outside educators, camp staff, and each other. Machon participants spend every afternoon gaining hands-on experience by observing and assisting in camper groups. Machon participants are selected through an application and interview process.
