MY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

Let me remind you my experience during an earthquake at Yogyakarta

in 2006. When the earthquake happened, I was on my car with my family. My father

was driving to grandmother’s home from our vocation in Keraton Yogyakarta.

Suddenly our car lunched to one side, to the left. I thought we got flat tire. I did not

know that it was an earthquake. I knew it was an earthquake when I saw some

telephone and electricity poles falling down to the ground, like matchsticks.

Then I saw a lot of rocks tumbling across the road. I was trapped by the rock.

Even My father could not move my car at all. There were rocks everywhere. There

was nothing we could do but left the car and walked along way to my grandmother’s

house, in the Bantul.

When I reached my grandmothers village in Bantul, I was so surprised that

there was almost nothing left. The earthquake made a lot of damage to my

grandmothers village. Although nothing was left, I thanked God that nobody was

seriously injured.

surprised me. ”Hi...! what’s wrong? You dont look yourself to day? Why you come

so early today?” My father give me a gift. By the way, have you heard about Siska?”

What is the matter with her?” I asked.

Haven’t you heard? Everyone at school has, ”She replied.” What is it? Would you tell

me please?” I begged her. “Ok, she is falling in love with Hafid. Don’t you know?

She is your classmate, isn’t she,?”

“You are kidding! I can’t believe it is true. As for as I know, she is acalm girl.

But,,,,,how about Hafid respon’s?. I asked her “wow.....I don’t know. Please ask him

yourself.”

Suddenly the bell will be ringing soon, she answered hurriedly and run to her

classroom. One by one, my friends entered the classroom. It’s was very noisy in the

classroom. The teacher was absent and there was no special assigment. And then

me. “ Yes I will. Believe in me. I am as good as mr. Postman,” I said with smile.

“Thank’s a lot for your help. “no problem.”

In the afternoon I met Hafid in the vollybal court, he was smiling when I approached

him. “Hafid....” I called . “yes, what is wrong?” he came to me with smile. “here is

“please read yourself.” I said.” well is it from your close friend?”

“right,” I replied shortly.

Hafid was smiling when he looked at me. I was a beat annoyed by his smiled.

A week has passed when Siska came to me and asked about her letter.

“I am afraid I don’t know. I have not met hinm for soon as I meet him dont forget it

Qudsi.” In the afternoon I met with Hafid. “Hafid have you answered siska’s letter I

gave you a few days ago ?”

“Sorry......I have had no time to write it. I’d rather say.....I don’t love her, but I do

love someone else,” he replied.

THE FIVE PILLARS OF ISLAM

Islam has five primary obligations, or pillars of faith, that each Muslim must

fulfill in his or her lifetime. They are as follows:

Shahadah, profession of faith, is the first pillar of Islam. Muslims bear witness to the

oneness of God by reciting the creed "There is no God but God and Muhammad is the

Messenger of God." This simple yet profound statement expresses a Muslim's

complete acceptance of and total commitment to Islam.

Salah, prayer, is the second pillar. The Islamic faith is based on the belief that

individuals have a direct relationship with God. The world's Muslims turn

individually and collectively to Makkah, Islam's holiest city, to offer five daily

prayers at dawn, noon, mid-afternoon, sunset and evening.

Zakat, almsgiving, is the third pillar. Social responsibility is considered part of one's

service to God; the obligatory act of zakat enshrines this duty. Zakat prescribes

payment of fixed proportions of a Muslim's possessions for the welfare of the entire

community and in particular for its neediest members.

Sawm, fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, is the fourth pillar of Islam.

Ordained in the Holy Qur'an, the fast is an act of deep personal worship in which

Muslims seek a richer perception of God. Fasting is also an exercise in self-control

whereby one's sensitivity is heightened to the sufferings of the poor.

Hajj, the pilgrimage to Makkah, is the fifth pillar and the most significant

manifestation of Islamic faith and unity in the world. For those Muslims who are

physically and financially able to make the journey to Makkah, the Hajj is a once in a

lifetime duty that is the peak of their religious life.

The five pillars of Islam define the basic identity of Muslims, their faith, beliefs

and practices and bind together a worldwide community of believers into a

fellowship of shared values and concerns.

LAST PROMISE( 1 ) This morning he came to see me, sitting beside me and smiled at

me. I really look helpless gaze, a gaze that is so warm, hopeful and always

allowed me to forgive him. I realized I loved him so much, I do not want to lose

him., Although he often hurt me and made me cry. ( 2 ) Not only that, I will lose

my best friend, I do not care about other people saying about me. I will still forgive

Elga, though he often betrayed my love.

"I do not know what else to say, for the umpteenth time, you're cheating! You've

ngancurin trust me!

" I can not look into his eyes again, tears falling so heavily showering my face. I am

helpless, so weak and hugged him tightly.

"I forgive Nilam, forgive me! I promise I will not nyakitin you again. I promise

Nilam.I love you! Please, you do not cry anymore! "

I can not say anything more than forgive, I do not want to lose Elga, I loved him.

Elga pick me up tonight, we'll be dating and dinner. I purposely wore a blue dress and

Elga giving up as beautiful as possible. Elga met in the living room, he smiled,

looked at me from top to bottom.

"Nilam, you're really pretty tonight."

"Thank you. We finished dinner right? "

"Yes of course, but Nilam, tonight I do not have a car and your car is still in the

garage, you do not mind us riding Taxi?"

"Engga ko, so already we're calling taxis wrote, let's go."

Eagerly I Elga arm. It was really fun, along the way Elga clutched my hand, I leaned

dibahu Elga enjoyed our trip and forget all the mistakes that have been done to me

Elga.

We stopped at a roadside tent disebuah. I was a little hesitant, what really Elga take

me to eat in a place like this. I know very well the nature of Elga, he might not want

to eat at a small shop on the roadside.

"Why El? Mienya not good? "

"Nah ko, mienya tasty, hot Just wrote. You do not eat anything right place kaya gini

Patchouli? "

"Nah. I often ate ko kaya gini place. Tasty chicken noodle loch. You chew it slowly

and enjoy it felt deeply. "

I'm sure, do not ever eat Elga kaya gini place. But it seems Elga began to enjoy his

food, he talked at length about his friends, his family and a lot of things.

Two years with Elga not a short time, and not easy to maintain our relationship over

the years. Elga often betrayed me, not once or twice Elga affair, but he kept returning

to me. And I always forgive him, that makes me miss my friends. They were right,

I'm a fool who will be tricked by ELGA. Although now they stay away from me, I

still consider them my best friends.

Finished eating Elga seems confused, he looked for something from his pocket.

"What my purse behind in taxi?"

"Sure we do not have in your pocket?"

"Nothing. How then? "

"Yes already, use the money I wrote. Any way that you always treat me, now you

turn on me. Ok! "

"Ok. Thanks yes dear, forgive me. "

While in college, I met with Alin and Flora. I miss both my best friend, almost four

months we were together, until now they are still my best friend. When passed, Alin

pull my hand.

"Nilam, you sick? Ko pucet sich? "

Alin talk to me, this is like a dream, Alin still care for me.

"Engga, Just tired aja ko Lin. How are you guys? "

"Obviously tired lah, got a boyfriend diselingkuhin continues! Anyway like the same

guy wrote sich dimainin Elga rich playboy! Lest Elga not love you? Oops, slipped

out. "

"Stop Flo! Hurt Nilam! You discuss how sich Flo was mulu? Nilam's not wrong.

""Let dech Alin, you wrote diem! Should you ngaca Patchouli! Why do you

diselingkuhin on! "

Flora right, lest Elga do not care about me, Elga same time I do not love, that's what

made Elga always betray me. During this time I do not even think that way, maybe

because I was too afraid of losing love and ELGA ELGA. All night I thought about it,

I doubt the feeling Elga me. If true Elga does not love me, I really can not forgive

him anymore.

Although there are no class schedules, I still go to college to work on group

assignments. After a late night and the campus was nearly deserted I went home.

Upon reaching the parking lot, I saw a woman with Elga. I can not see her face as she

turned to me. Maybe Elga menghianatiku again. This time I can not forgive him.

They got into the car, I could see wanitaitu, very clearly, he's my best friend, Flora ....

Really, I really can not forgive Elga. I'll make sure, what Elga will be honest with me

or he would lie to me, I grab the phone and call Elga.

"Hello, can you pick me up now El?"

sister? Huh! "

"Nilam, you say what a pity? You say now again where? "

"I own you go at clay Flora El! You do not have to bohongin me! This time I can not

forgive you El! Why did you have an affair together Flora El? I hate you! From now

on I'm not tough you again! We Disconnect El!

""Nilam, is not ......."

I threw my cell phone, my car with a top speed kulaju, my tears continue to fall, my

heart is very sick, I have to accept the fact that the ELGA not love me, she had an

affair with my best friend.

A few days after that I did not go to college, I could just locked myself in my room

and cried. Lucky mom and dad understand my feelings, they encourage me and

support me to forget Elga, even though I know it's not easy. Every day Elga came to

the house and apologized, even Elga had all night in front of the gate of my house,

but I did not see him. I promise I will not forgive Elga, and promise Takan kuingkari,

unlike promises that will not Elga menghianatiku he always denied.

Today I decided to go to college, I hope not to meet with Elga. But after college,

suddenly Elga there before me.

"Elgaaaa ....."

Elga hit by a car while chasing me, he was bouncing so much. Red roses he brought

scattered red mixed with blood from head Elga.

"Elga, forgive me!"

"Elgaaaaaa ......"

( 3 )Elga died on the spot, it's all my fault, if I'm willing to forgive this Takan

MY SISTER MOST PRECIOUS

I was born in a hamlet in a very remote mountain Day after day, my

parents plowed the yellow dry soil, and their backs facing the sky. I have a sister,

three years younger than me. One time, to buy a handkerchief which all girls around

me seems to carry it, I stole money from my father's drawer. Dad immediately

noticed. He made my sister and I knelt in front of the wall, with a bamboo stick in his

hand. "Who stole the money?" He asked. I was stunned, too afraid to speak. Dad did

not hear anyone claim to, so he said, "Well, then, you two should be beaten!"

He lifted up the bamboo stick high. Suddenly, my sister grabbed her arm and said,

"Dad, I did it!"Long stick hit my brother back repeatedly. Father was so angry that he

kept on whipping until he lost his breath. Afterward, he sat up in bed brick and scold

us, "You have learned to steal from the house now, what other embarrassing things

will you do in the future? You should be beaten to death! You shameless thief! "

That night, mother and I hugged my sister in our arms. His body was covered with

wounds, but he did not shed a tear drop. In the middle of the night, I suddenly began

to bawl. My brother covered my mouth with his little hand and said, "Sister, do not

cry now. Everything has happened. "

I hate myself for not having the courage to come forward. Many years have passed,

but the incident still seems like yesterday. I will never forget the look of my brother

when he was protecting me. At that time, my brother was 8 years old and my aq

go to high school in the district center. At the same time, I was accepted to go to a

provincial university. That night, father squatted in the yard, smoking, packet by

bungkus.Saya hear him said, "Both our kids were so good, she wiped her tears were

flowing and sighed," What's the point? How can we possibly finance both of them?

"At that time, my brother walked out to my father and said," Dad, I do not want to go

to school anymore, I have read enough books. "He swung his arm and hit my brother

in the face. "Why do you have a spirit so damn weak? Even if the father had to beg in

the streets, he would do it so can still get you two to finish! "

I stuck out my hand as gently as I can to my brother's swollen face, and said, "A boy

has to continue his school, otherwise he will never leave this poverty."

I, on the contrary, has decided to no longer continue to university.

Who knew the next day, before dawn, my brother left the house with some ragged

clothes and a few dry beans. He slipped into bed next to a piece of paper and left on

my pillow: "Sis, getting into university is not easy. I'll go find a job and will send you

the money. "

I held the note while sitting on my bed, and cried with tears running until I lost my

voice. That year, my brother was 17 years old I'm 20.

With the money father borrowed from the whole village, and the money my brother

earned from carrying cement on his back at a construction site, I finally got to the

third year (at university).

One day, I was studying in my room, my roommate came in and said, "There's a

villager waiting for you outside!"

"Why is there a villager looking for me?" I walked out, and saw my brother from

afar, the whole body is dirty, covered in cement and sand. I asked him, "Why did you

not tell my roommate that you are my brother?" He replied, smiling, "See how I look.

What would they think if they knew I was your brother? What they will not laugh? "I

felt so touched, and tears filled my eyes. I wiped the dust from my brother's, and-

sealed bulkhead in my words, "I do not care what people say! You are my brother for

nothing! You are my brother no matter how you look ... "

From his pocket, he pulled out a hairpin-shaped butterfly. He put it to me, and goes

on to explain, "I saw all the girls wear the city. So I think you should also have one.

"I can not help myself any longer. I pulled my brother into my arms and cried and

cried. That year, he was 20. I'm 23.

The first time I brought my boyfriend home, broken windows have been replaced,

and the clean look everywhere. After my boyfriend left, I danced like a little girl in

asked. "No, not sick. You know, when I was working at a construction site, stones

falling on my feet all the time. Even that did not stop me from working and ...

"Despite the sentence, he stopped. I turned my back, and tears streamed down my

face.

That year, my brother was 23. I was 26 years old.

When I got married, I lived in the city. Many times my husband invited my parents to

come and live with us, but they did not want. They said, once they left the village,

they would not know what to do. My sister also did not agree, saying, "Sis, keep-in-

the factory. We wanted my brother to get a job as a manager in the maintenance

department. But my brother rejected the offer.

He insisted on starting work as reparation. One day, my brother was on the top of a

ladder repairing a cable, when he got electrocuted, and was hospitalized. My husband

and I went to visit him. Seeing a white cast on his leg, I grumbled, "Why did you

refuse to be a manager? The manager will never have to do something dangerous like

this. Look at you now, such a serious injury. Why will not you listen to us? "

With a serious look on his face, he defended his decision. "Think of brother-in-law -

he just became the director, and I barely educated. If I became the manager, what

kind of message you want to send? "My eyes filled with tears, and then I said, a

single-single," But your lack of education because of me! "

"Why talk about the past?" My brother grabbed my hand.

That year, he was 26 and I was 29.

My sister then aged 30 when he married a farmer girl from the village. During his

wedding, the master of ceremonies asked him, "Who do you most respect and love?"

Without even thinking, he answered, "My sister."

He went on to recount a story that could not even remember. "When I went to

elementary school, he was in a different village. Every day my sister and I walked for

HEALTHY FOOD

Healthy food is a general term applied to all kinds of foods that are considered

more healthful than the types of food widely sold in Supermarkets. For example,

whole grain, dried beans, and corned oil are healthy food. A narrower classification

of healthy food is natural food.

LOVING MONEY TOO MUCH

There was a man who liked money very much. He worked all of his life and

wanted to save all of his money for his own future. He was a real miser when it came

to his money. He loved money more than just about anything.

Even, just before he died, he said to his wife; "Now listen, when I die, I want

you to take all my money and place it in the casket with me. I wanna take my money

to the afterlife." So he asked his wife to promise him with all her heart that when he

died, she would put all the money in the casket with him.

Well, one day, he really died. Then he was stretched out in the casket. The

wife was sitting there in black clothes next to her closest friend. When they finished

the ceremony, just before the undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife said

HEART DISEASE

Heart disease is Western society’s number –one killer. It accounts for one-

third of all deaths in America and for well over half the deaths among middle-

aged men. Heart disease was relatively rare in America at the turn of the century, but

is has risen dramatically since then, with a slight downturn in 1960.

Heart disease often viewed as a disease of modern living, spurred on by the

habits and the stress of industrialized society. Evidence for this idea comes from the

fact that non-western societies have relatively low rates of heart disease. And there is

a higher rate of heart disease among immigrants to America, such as Japanese

Americans and Chinese-Americans, than among those who remain in their native

country, suggesting that something about the Western environment promotes the

development of the disease.

Heart disease usually involves the formation of a fatty substance called plague in the

walls of the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart. If the arteries become

PLA

GIA

T

narrowed enough or blocked, the person may suffer a heart attack, that is death of a

region of heart muscle tissue.

Among the many factors that have been found to be related to the risk of

developing heart disease are high blood pressure, a history of heart disease among

one’s close relatives, cigarette smoking, being relatively overweight, and a high level

of a fatty substance called cholesterol in the blood. In addition to all of these well

established risk factors, it is now clear that stress can have a major impact on the

development of heart disease. People who continually undergo a great deal of stress

and who lack the ability to control it-are at a significantly greater risk for disease than

people who undergo less stress or who can manage stress successfully. Jobs that

impose high psychological demands but they provide the worker with the little

control-such as a cook, waiter, and hospital orderly-seem to be heart disease.

WEEKENDS

Weekends are great. I just love them! After a long week of school, I have the

biggest smile on my face when I see that Saturday is the next day on the calendar.

One reason weekends are great because you can sleep in. There’s nothing like

lounging around on a cold day in your flannel pajamas. You don’t have to take a

shower first thing in the morning. That means you can wait until the afternoon. I

can’t think of anything better than lounging around on a Saturday and not having to

rush off to school.

Also, weekends are very popular with me because I can play around.

Rollerblading around the neighborhood with my friends is always an adventure.

When I get tired of that, I usually invite them back to my house to play board games

like Monopoly or play cards like Go Fish.

PLA

As well as, weekends are great because I can stay up late. Sleepovers with my

friends usually ends with a pillow fight and feathers flying everywhere. Once we

settle down, we watch scary movies with gigantic monsters while munching on

DO WOMAN DESERVE HIGHER EDUCATION?

The issue we are discussing is whether women need higher education or not.

Some people think that there is no use for women to get higher education, for a

women’s main role is in their household and surrounding. Thus, knowing about

practical household management is sufficient for women to lead their lives.

Moreover, higher education does not ensure woman get a better life, so why bother

about it? There are many examples of women who succeed in their lives though they

enjoy only average education. They succeed in managing their household, educating

their children and participating in community activities.

On the other hand, some other people believe that women also have right to pursue

higher education. They claim that education is important for everyone, includingPLA

GIA

T

women, because it is one way to improve the quality of live. Therefore, every woman

must get education as high as they can pursue.

A further point they make is that higher education is not just the matter of achieving a

better position in a community or working sphere. More importantly it is the way to

empower women and to give them better understanding of life and universe.

In summary, women have the same right as men’s to get higher education.

However it is also their right to take the chance or just to leave it

The sense of taste is one of a person’s five senses.

There are four main kinds of taste: sweet, sour, salty, and bitter. All other

tastes are just mixture of two or more of these main types. The surface of the tongues

has more than fifteen thousand taste-buds (or cells). These are connected to the brain

by special nerves which send the so-called ‘tastes messages’. When the tongue comes

into contact with food of any kind, the taste-buds will pick up the taste. The nerves

then send a message to the brain. This will make us aware of the taste. All this

happens in just a few seconds. There are four kinds of taste-buds, each of which is

sensitive to only a particular taste. These four groups are located in different. The

taste-buds for salty and the sweet tastes are found round the tip of the tongue and

along its sides. Sour tastes can be picked up only at the sides of the tongue. The taste-

buds for the bitter taste are found at the innermost edge of the tongue. There are

PLA

GIA

T

tastes-buds at the centre of the tongue. The senses of smell and the sight can affect

taste. The good smell of food increases its taste. Similarly, attractive colors can make

food appear tastier and more delicious. If food does not smell good or is dull-colored,

it will look tasty and may not taste good at all.

In summary, we taste with the help of taste-buds in the tongue, very

hot or cold sensations can make the taste-buds insensitive. Food that is too hot or too

cold, when placed in the mouth, will have no tastes at all.

The history of Islam in Australia pre-dates European settlement. From 1650,

muslim fisherman from South East Asia communicated and traded with Aborigines

from Australia's north. Some inter-marriage occurred. In the 1860s, some 3000 camel

drivers - with camels - came from Afghanistan and the Indian sub-continent. This

group contributed to the exploration of the Australian outback, working on both the

railway line between Port Augusta and Alice Springs, and the Overland Telegraph

Line from Adelaide to Darwin, which cennected Australia to London via India

Since the late 1960s there have been a number of significant muslim migrations

into Australia, most notably from Turkey and Lebanon. In the 1990s, refugees and

migrants from the Horn of Africa, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Bosnia-Herzegovina,

Albania, Indonesia and Malaysia have all made their home in Australia.

Islamic societies in Australia are affiliated with AFIC (The Australian Federation of

PILES OF TRASHPLA

Sometimes when I pass some certain places in Jakarta, I often see piles of

trash by the side of the street or even by the river. This view is annoying. It makes

our city look ugly and very dirty. If we talk near the pile of trash, we could smell

stinky odors coming from it. Piles of trash bring the bacteria with them. Isn’t that

very dangerous to our health if flies land on our food.

However many people live around this mountain-like heap of trash. Many

children play nearby. Also a lot of women wash their clothes, fruits and vegetables in

the river which is contaminated by trash. This is terrible. I think they do not realize

the danger, because they do not have knowledge about healthy living.

In my opinion, the government must take a regulation that prohibits people

to build hoses near the trash disposal (dump side). Also, there should be special

officer, like police who watch and catch people who throw trash on the ground or

into rivers. Moreover a big fine does make people stop dropping litter carelessly, the

government should put them into jail as punishment.

Finally, I think the efforts to keep our environment clean and tidy need hard

work from both citizen and government.

about 13 inches in length (33 cm), about the size and build of a crow. The males are

covered with different sizes and shapes of feathers in every conceivable color, and

they often have patches of skin without feathers that are wild, shocking colors as

following any sort of migratory pattern.

Courtship is the main purpose of the cendrawasih’s gaudy appearance. The

The Legal Battle Between Apple and Samsung

Samsung Electronics has won the latest case in its continuing battle with the

American owned computer company Apple over property rights. A court in Japan

ruled in favor of the South Korean company last week in a case its Galaxy series of

smartphones and tablets.

The three judge panel in Tokyo said the products did not violate the property

rights of an Apple patent for organizing music and video across devices. The court

also ordered Apple to pay all costs relating to the court case. The case is just one of

many in the worldwide legal battle between Apple and Samsung.

Last month, a jury in the state of California found the South Korean company

guilty of willfully violating property rights on several patents owned by Apple. The

California jury awarded Apple more than one billion dollars in damages.

PLA

GIA

T

The patents include so called utility patents for Apple’s “pinch to zoom” and

“tap to zoom” technology. They also include design patents on the look and shape of

the iPhone, and one for the home screen design.

Madhavi Sunder is a professor of law at the University of California, Davis.

She has also written a new book called “From Goods a Good Life: Intellectual

Property and Global Justice.” She says issues involving design patents are more

complex.

Madhavi Sunder: “These design patents are much more controversial. And a

big question here is isn’t that what market competition is all about.” Professor Sunder

says patents are meant to increase competition and support design and development.

Madhavi Sunder: “For Apple to say its design which becomes a new industry

standard, the standard of sleek, cool, modern gadgets is something that only one

company can have an exclusive right over, this is a real problem. And it raises the

real question of whether or not we should be protecting design with patents with

patents in the first place.” She says Apple built its computer company using the same

methods that it is now opposing.

Madhavi Sunder: “Steve Jobs, ironically, built Apple’s reputation on the fact

that Apple freely took all the best ideas that were out there and tweaked them and

modified them to create a better product. He often quoted Picasso who said, “good

artists copy but great artists steal. “ The said thing now is that Apple is saying they

can do it but no one else after them can. This goes to the heart of what innovation is

about.

Samsung said the California court’s verdict, in its words, “should not be

viewed as a win for Apple, but as a loss for American consumers.”

In a rare memo to its employees, the company said it would continue its fight

until its arguments are accepted. On the same day as the California ruling, a court in

South Korea ruled in another case that both Apple and Samsung had violated each

other’s patents.
