TRANSCRIPT
We have had a great start to our new theme, ‘Stepping back in time’. We started in the 50s by listening to Elvis Presley, making our own milkshakes to drink in our
50’s diner and working on Jackson Pollock style paintings.
Everyone has really enjoyed collaborating to create a giant splatter painting and it has been great fun getting messy!

Class 3.2
In 3.2 this term we have been looking at the text The Fantastic Mr Fox. We have read some of the text, watched the film, completed worksheets and
dressed up as some of the characters.
Our topic work this term has been stepping back in
time. We have done lots of different activities
around the theme of the different decades, the
50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and the 90s. This has included
art and music. We have looked at different artists
from each decade, recreated their work and
listened to different music too.
March 2017
In English this term we have been studying Robin Hood. We have found out about all the
characters in the story such as Maid Marian, Little John and The Evil Prince. We have
watched part of the film and read the text together.
In Humanities our subject this term has been
History and we have been learning about famous
inventors during the Industrial Revolution.
In outdoor learning we are still working on our
Butterfly Garden.
Have a lovely Easter!
This half term, Class 3.3 have been learning about the author Roald Dahl. We have read a variety of his books including George’s Marvellous Medicine and The BFG,
watched film versions of his stories and re-enacted scenes from Fantastic Mr Fox. We have had lots of fun learning
about farmers Boggis, Bunce and Bean’s different strategies to outwit Mr Fox.
Our Humanities topic has been Local History and we have
been out walking within the local community looking at old
mills and mill sites. We also paid a trip to the Heritage
Centre at Oswaldtwistle Mills to look at the old cotton
machines.
Class 3.5
Class 3.3 Don’t’ forget we return to school on Tuesday 18th April 2017
Class 3.4 have been studying a unit on Roald Dahl as part of their English curriculum this term. They have written their
own short story in the style of Roald Dahl, creating characters, a setting, a beginning, middle and ending and a problem and a solution within the story. Their stories
were very inventive.
We celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 2nd of
March with a whole school assembly celebrating books,
then a carousel of activities led by the teachers around
school. It was a great day.

Class 3.6
Class 4.1
All our students are continuing to grow in confidence and this has been put down to the daily discussion
that we have after watching Newsround. Every morning brings us some new and interesting chats about
the world we live in. This is great for global learning with our topics ranging from pollution to the American
elections. It’s brilliant to see them getting involved with current affairs and understanding them.
John Muir Award
The work that we have covered over the last couple of months has been based on the outdoors with us making such things as, bug hotels, hedgehog houses and bird boxes. The students have loved getting involved, with each student having the opportunity to follow instructions and to get ‘hands on’ experience
with different equipment.
4.1 have worked really hard in all our activities and have made some great progress, well done all, and
keep up the fantastic work.
Have a Happy Easter Holiday from 4.1
Class 3.6 have had an extremely war based
term this term, looking at both World Wars
and the Battle of the Somme. In particular,
we have studied Private Peaceful and War
Horse, comparing and contrasting both novels
by Michael Morpurgo. This has involved a trip
to the Imperial War Museum and Battle of
the Somme Exhibition where the class had
some hands on experience and handled
many artefacts stemming from such
atrocities. Although a very sombre topic,
we have really enjoyed digging and delving
into the past.
Class 4.2 have recently completed a 10 week Work Experience placement at St. Paul’s Church in Oswaldtwistle and Hippings
Community Centre Luncheon Club. They have all worked really hard and their placement supervisors have been very impressed with them.
Well done!!!
Class 4.4
Class 4.2
This Spring Term, 4.3 have been learning about William Shakespeare and reading “The Tempest”. We
have done lots of drama based English and have acted out parts of The Tempest. We have changed it
into a Modern day setting and recorded scenes on the Ipads. We all created a story board of The
Tempest and we have displayed it in class.
We have been learning about British Values in our Citizenship lessons. We talked about Democracy
which is this terms theme.
We have worked extremely hard on our exams in English and Maths and we have been doing lots of
course work for our options.
Class 4.3
Hipping Community Centre
This term Class 4.4 have been looking to their
futures and preparing for life after school. They
have taken part in the “Inspiring Young People”
programme with Accrington Jobcentre. This
involved the class taking part in a variety of
workshops based at the Jobcentre, at North Lancs
Training Group and at Burnley College. They looked
at topics such as: budgeting and life skills;
interview preparation; listening and communicating;
job mapping; and Social Media use in job searches.
St Paul’s Church Oswaldtwistle
The students have been undertaking weekly horticulture lessons. With the short days and cold weather, the students watched seeds germinate in the classroom by sprouting cress and a selection of beans. The students used the food they had produced in food technology to make egg and cress sandwiches and the
sprouted beans were used to make a tasty vegetable soup during a visit to Huncoat House.
During the weekly community visit this half term, the students visited Oswaldtwistle Mills garden centre.
They chose and purchased everything they
needed to make up a spring flowering
planter and included sage and lemon thyme
to give fragrance. The students decided to
make up planters to sell as an enterprise
project for Mother’s Day. A production line
was created in the classroom to make up
‘beautiful blooms for special people!’

We made a hedgehog house as a team. We put it outside. This was for our John Muir Award. On World Book Day Sabah came dressed as
a vampire and Ben came as Tigger.
We went to Tesco’s with our book tokens and chose a book each.
We shared our John Muir Award work with everyone in an
assembly.
In Peel, we are proud of our musicians who entertained members of the public at the Celebration Of Music at
Oswaldtwistle Civic Theatre. Also we have four students in the school choir who were winners in two competitions
this term!
This term, our Enterprise has been really successful in making hot baguettes for staff. We have had up to 38 staff orders, this has resulted in us visiting Scholars
Restaurant for a three course meal as a reward. Students that are leaving in July 2017 have been busy visiting various
colleges, attending taster days and interviews at the college of their choice.
Throughout this half term, we have been
following the story of Peter Pan in our English
lessons. We have all enjoyed learning about the
story and the main characters. We have described
the physical appearance of each character and used
the puppets to help act out the story.
After another very successful term for our
enterprise project ‘Spectacular Spuds!’ we all
enjoyed a class trip to The Space Centre in Preston
followed by lunch at McDonalds. Everyone had a
really good time and we are hoping to book another
trip there soon!
