Dual-function
single-lever controls:Dual-function single-lever controls operate bothshift and throttle with a single lever. The controlmechanism still uses two cables (one for shiftand one for throttle), but movement of bothcables and control of shift and throttle isachieved through just one lever.
Dual-function, single-lever controls are alsoavailable for twin engine applications. Althoughthere are two levers on the control, there is stillonly one lever controlling both shift and throttlefor each individual engine.
Single lever control helped make boats so mucheasier to handle that it has become the mostpopular control used today. Not only do single-

Multiple station
installations:Dual or multiple station applications almostexclusively use single-function two levercontrols. There are two basic system designsrecommended for multiple stations:
Parallel Control System: cables from eachcontrol station run all the way to the clutch andthrottle at the engine. This configuration issometimes used when cable runs are relativelyshort and direct.
Series Control System: cables run fromcontrols at the upper station to the lower stationcontrols. A second set of control cables runsfrom the lower station to the engine. Thismethod is generally used for longer, moredifficult cable runs.
When to utilize a parallel series system isdictated by the total degrees of bend in thecables as measured by the sum of the degreesof all bend radii. This directly affects theefficiency of cable action. The configuration thatgives the control system the fewest degrees ofbend is the one that should be employed.

Control head mounting:A final choice in engine control styles is the typeof mounting. TeleflexMorse offers controls formost applications and user preferences.
Mechanical Advantage:Every control has its own “mechanicaladvantage” factor. Mechanical advantagemeans that because you are using a lever tocreate motion at the other end of a controlsystem (move the throttle or shift mechanismon the engine itself) it requires less effort at thecontrol handle than it would if you were pushingdirectly on the engine’s throttle or shiftmechanism. Example: if an engine required 15pounds of force to move its shift lever and youuse a control with a mechanical advantage of2.77, you would divide the force by themechanical advantage to determine how much

effort must be exerted at the control leverhandle to create the needed 15 pounds of force.
Understanding a control’s mechanicaladvantage and the amount of force to beovercome at the engine is very important whenspecifying the appropriate control.

Single engine/single station boats can usevirtually any of our controls when used withuniversal 3300/33 type control cables.
Outboards and stern drives should use controlswhich offer the neutral safety switch and lock-out features.
Inboard single-function type controls arerecommended for hydraulic transmissions andtwin stations. Note that some of these can beused with the heavy duty (43 type cables);others cannot. Check your application.

Single function controls in dual stationapplications should use shift detents at the mainoperating station only.
Sailboats can use either side mounts or topmounts as space permits. Specialty controlsare offered for bass, ski, and jet boats, eachsuited to the characteristics of those boats.
Control cable routing paths should bechosen to minimize bends, kinks andobstructions. Cable routing with a few gradualbends will result in better feel at the control.After installation, all boats should be watertested to ensure safe, dependable operation.

With the CH5600, you can take fulladvantage of premium, high-efficiencycables for smooth lever operation, becausecable movement is unrestricted. Yet, theCH5600’s patented SLT clutch will not allowvibration and cable feedback to move the lever.
Other controls allow the use of premium cables,but the extra advantage of those highperformance cables is negated when a “cablebrake” is used to limit throttle creep. There is no“positive stop” with a cable brake. You tighten itto achieve a trade-off between lever slippageand ease of movement. If it’s too tight, the cablebecomes difficult to move. If it’s too loose, thecable may feel fine but the lever may creep.
Each lever of the CH5600 control has bothan SLT and direct-drive cable attachment forsingle or dual station operation withoutsacrificing cable efficiency or smoothness.

Start and warm-up are done by pulling out the handlevers in the neutral position. This disengages theclutch and allows throttle to be advanced in neutral.Returning to neutral detent reengages clutch.

Applications:ST controls are great choice for many inboardsand sailboats, stern drives and outboards. TheSTB control includes a throttle brake and canshift Berkeley jets when a foot throttle is used.
ST/STB units can utilize 33 type universalcontrol cables.
ST-HD and STB-HD controls use 43 typecontrol cables.
ST/STB controls are for single-station use onlyand are not suitable for use with Mercury® andOMC® OEM type control cables.

Applications:Pro Trim is a “bolt-on” for all popular Teleflexsteering systems and is attractively packaged,with everything you need. Also suitable for usewith Morse® Command 200 rack & pinionsteering, and it’s the only trim switchrecommended for SeaStar and SeaStar PROhydraulic steering systems!
NOTE: When properly installed, this engine trim control allowsadjustment of trim settings on various engines by attaching toeither a bezel or boot (mechanical & tilt steering) or the front ofa helm (SeaStar hydraulic steering) and by splicing intoexisting engine trim wiring. Mechanical steering bezels mustallow for proper installation of mounting screws (see Pro Triminstructions). Refer to engine manual for additional detailsabout trim wiring. For Big-T, SeaStar rear mount helms andSeaStar Capilano applications, call Teleflex Marine technicalservice at 610-495-7011. Pro Trim is not suitable for use withpre-1991 SeaStar helms (with domed oil seal cover). Do notattempt to install Pro Trim on these helms.
