various research programmes in Science, Humanities, Computer Science, Languages, Commerce and Management. The Scientific research mainly focuses on the major areas viz. Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, Food Biotechnology, Medical Microbiology, Industrial Microbiology, Environmental Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology & Tissue Culture, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology & Molecular Biology .

The research projects that are underway are broadly the following:

Ÿ Bioactive peptides and secondary metabolites from plant and microbial sources for therapeutic applications as anti hypertensive drugs, antioxidants, antimicrobial or insecticidal agents.

Ÿ Plant tissue culture for micro-propagation of medicinal, ornamental plant species and conservation of endangered species and production of valuable secondary metabolites.

Ÿ Development of microbial degradation processes and their application in bioremediation of soils, water bodies contaminated with pesticide residues and other hazardous chemicals.

Ÿ Microbial production of various industrial products such as enzymes, pigments, biopolymers, secondary metabolites etc.

Ÿ Nutraceutical values of various food components, nutritional quality improvement of food products through supplementation with natural products, and improvement of functional properties of food enzymes.

Ÿ Microbial Genetics, Molecular Epidemiology and Drug resistance studies Ÿ Structural and computational biology

All the research activities are aimed at the abatement of human misery with an emphasis on high cost reduction and zero or minimal interference with environment and deliverable to mainly the lower strata of human population.

STUDENTS WELFARE & MENTORING SCHEME

The students of the college are divided at the beginning of the year into groups depending on the strength of the class. Each group is placed under the personal care of a teacher designated as Advisor. The groups will meet formally at regular intervals. They will meet informally in small numbers as often as possible. The Advisors will discuss with the group under their care, the general and individual problems and difficulty of students, both when they formally meet and on other occasions. The Advisors will exercise strict disciplinary control over their wards. They will closely watch their conduct and progress and maintain continuous contact with the parents as well as the wards. The Director of Advisory Scheme is responsible for the implementation of student welfare schemes at the college.
