AWARD WINNERS FROM THE BSHS ART COMPETITION
PRINCIPAL’S PATTER
Hello Everyone
Congratulations to our Year 2 class for their very entertaining performance
at our last assembly, based on fairy tale characters.
Preliminary NAPLAN data has been released. Although we are already
using some of this to modify teaching & learning programs, it does not have
comparisons or standards with which to compare.
The parent report on your child’s achievement will be released to the school
in mid-September and will be distributed to you shortly thereafter.
The students are getting very excited about the School Faction Athletics
Carnival to be held next week on Friday 6 September. We wish all three
factions, Odin, Hutt and Walters, a very enjoyable day. The carnival will
commence at approximately 9.00 am with the long distance runs. Students
are required to wear their faction shirt, which can be purchased through the
school’s uniform shop (open Wednesday 8.40 am to 9.00 am).
We are looking forward to a terrific day, with all students doing their best for
their factions.
On Wednesday 14 August, Balcatta Senior High School hosted their annual
Primary School Art competition. The schools involved were Balcatta,
Osborne, Takari, Tuart Hill and West Balcatta Primary schools. Twenty
students from Balcatta entered the competition with the theme being
‘Portraits’.

FACTION CARNIVAL FUN - FRIDAY 6 SEPTEMBER
CAKE STALL
We are running a cake stall to raise
money to purchase a plaque for Mr V’s
garden. We are asking for all you
amazing bakers to cook some delicious
cupcakes, muffins, slices etc. to donate
to the stall. Please deliver all goods to the canteen before school on the
Friday. These will be sold at recess time. Please remember we cannot keep
perishables toppings such as fresh cream, cream cheese and custard
refrigerated. Also remember we are an allergy aware school.
LUNCH
For lunch we will be offering meat and veggie burgers down at the
canteen. All meat will be supplied by Ismail’s Halal Butcher at
Northlands shopping centre.
We are seeking volunteers to help out selling items at the cake stall at
recess, and the burgers at lunch. If you have some time spare, we
would really appreciate your help, whether it’s to prepare, cook or pack away
etc. Please let us know if you can help out.
MOBILE COFFEE VAN Koffee2go will be on the courts selling hot drinks and slushies.
Please remember that this is a Smoke & Alcohol free event. If you wish to
smoke, please ensure you are a minimum of 10mtrs away from the oval and
school entrances.
Thank you – we look forward to a fun day!
CADBURY FUNDRAISER This year we are running a Cadbury Chocolate fundraiser. Look out for it,
coming soon.
CANTEEN Due to the special burger menu planned for the Athletics Carnival, normal canteen
will not be running on 6 September, but will resume the following Friday (13
September).
*Choban Yogurt pouches and hotdogs will now be regular
items on our canteen menu.
Come on down to the Breakfast club on Tuesday morning
& get yourself a free Choban Gimmies yogurt.
First in – first served.
CHAPLAINS CORNER
With the cooler weather this term and lots of us getting sick we have many opportunities to practice our August value of DETERMINATION. How is your family going at: - setting goals - being focused on what you are doing (that might mean encouraging your child(ren) in doing their homework or tidying their room or other family jobs) and helping them to resist getting distracted - keeping on going if finding something difficult and asking for help if we need to, so that... - we finish what we start because it we believe that what we are doing is important.
As parents one of our most important jobs is to train our children and that takes a
lot of determination some days. 😊
For September we are focusing on RESPECT, but let's keep practising DETERMINATION. Our Faction Sports Carnival next week gives a great opportunity to put into practice both of these values.
Have a great week. Keep well.
