• Advantages and Disadvantages
• Conclusion
Introduction
• New technology among LCD & DMD
• Based on optical telescope
• Telescopic indicates that each pixel acts as a
miniature telescope
• Pixel = Picture + Element
History of Display Technologies
• Cathode Ray Tube – 1st display technology
• First commercial color CRT- 1954
• Vacuum tube containing electron gun
Liquid Crystal Display
• Liquid crystal display
• Good quality , price & power efficiency
• Transmit only 5-10% of the backlight radiation
Operation Principle
• Pixel => OFF => Mirrors are parallel
• Pixel => ON => Primary Mirror is deformed
Fabrication
• Each pixel is produced in two half
• Secondary mirror – Lithographically patterned
array of Al on glass
• Primary mirror -
Advantages
• Increases battery time
• Low cost
• Relative ease of fabrication
• High transmission efficiency
• Pixel response time is high
Disadvantages
• Only disadvantage is low contrast ratio
Conclusion
• Backlight transmission 36% & can reach upto56% with design improvements
• Have potential to be faster than LCD’s
• More scalable than plasma
• Cheaper and energy efficient than both
Thank You
