Why we have chosen SiRF
Next Generation GPS Performance
The SiRFstar III has the performance required to meet the industrys toughest
challenges. The 200,000+ effective correlators allow the SiRFstar III to acquire
in only seconds even in low signal levels.
As part of SiRF's patented multi-mode GPS the SiRFstar III can acquire
signal levels as low as -159dBm. The SiRFstar III supports
real-time navigation in urban canyons as well as high sensitivity
acquisition needed for indoor environments.

Features
EASY SCRIPT EXTENSION Python interpreter
The Easy Script Extension is a feature which allows driving the modem "internally",writing the application controls directly in a nice high level language: Python.
In addition to the existing built-in modules Telit added the GPS built-in module.
GPS built-in module. It is the interface between Python and mobile internal GPScontroller. Its necessary to use GPS built-in module to handle GPS controller withoutusing existing dedicated AT commands through MDM built-in module.

GM862-GPS vs. GE863-GPS
Power consumption
Nominal Supply Voltage: 3.8 V
Supply voltage range: 3.4 V - 4.2 V Max Peak current consumption (impulsive): 1.9 A
GSM Max Average current consumption during GPRS transmission (avg.): 500 mA
GSM Max Average current consumption during VOICE/CSD transmission (avg.): 270 mA
GSM Average current during Power Saving: 4 mA GSM Average current during idle (Power Saving disabled) 19 mA
GPS Max Peak current consumption: 80 mA
GPS Max Average current consumption during Tracking: 60 mA
GPS Average current during Power Saving: 1 mA GPS antenna consumption (external active antenna) 20 mA
NB: The total power consumption of the modules is the sum of the consumptions of
GSM and GPS part.

GM862-GPS vs. GE863-GPS
Mounting the GPS modules on the Application Board Remember to use the suggested connectors by Telit (Molex 50 pin,
RF MMCX)
When mounting the Telit GM862-GPS on your board, take care ofsoldering the module shielding reeds on a ground plane or signal.
Be very careful when connecting the Telit GM862 module RF
connector. The Telit GM862 module RF connector can be damagedif not connected with the proper antenna RF connector. Theminimum number of insertion cycles is recommended.
The Telit GE863-GPS has been designed in order to be compliantwith a standard lead-free SMT process.

GPS Antennas
The GE863-GPS and GM862-GPS modules are not provided with an internal
LNA amplifier. The use of an active antenna is important to achieve a good
performance.
The module is provided of an Antenna supply circuit with the following
characteristics:
Supply voltage referred to VBATT (3.4 to 4.2 V DC, typical 3.8V)
Supply enable controlled internally by the BB
Current measurement circuit (readable also with AT commands)
Voltage measurement circuit (readable also with AT commands)
HW Protection for Antenna Short Circuit (if consumption exceeds 40mA)
