PHILIP AND THE ETHIOPIANACTS 8:26-40

An angel spoke to Philip and told him to go to a road in the desert. The road went from Jerusalem to a place called Gaza. Philip did what the angel said. As Philip went, he saw a man from Ethiopia. The man had an important job. He served the queen of Ethiopia. He had come to Jerusalem to worship.

The man from Ethiopia was reading a scroll and trying to understand what the prophet Isaiah had written many years before. Philip asked if the man needed help understanding what he read. The man invited Philip to join him in his chariot. Philip began with Isaiah’s words and taught the Ethiopian man about Jesus. After understanding and believing that Jesus is the Son of God, the man wanted to be baptized. Philip baptized him. The Ethiopian man was very happy.

Philip went to other places, telling people the good news about Jesus.

SAUL TOLD ABOUT JESUSACTS 9:19-31

A man named Saul had come to the city of Damascus. Now he began telling people about Jesus. He said that Jesus was God’s Son.The people who heard Saul teach were amazed because not too long before, Saul tried to hurt people who believed in Jesus. Saul had them arrested. But now Saul believed Jesus was God’s Son. He wanted others to believe in Jesus, too. Some of the people became angry at Saul. They made a plan to kill Saul. But Saul found out about their plan. Saul’s friends helped him escape from Damascus by putting him through an opening in the wall and lowering him in a big basket.

Saul was safe! Saul went to Jerusalem. He wanted to be with the disciple, but the disciples were afraid of Saul because they thought he would still try to hurt believers. Saul’s friend, Barnabas, explained to them that Saul had changed and now loved Jesus. Saul was now excited to tell others about Jesus. Then some Greek Jews tried to kill Saul. Again, Saul’s friends helped him to get away. This time, Saul went to a city called Tarsus. The church began to grow, and many people started to believe in Jesus.

Cornelius was an important officer in the Roman army. He lived in a city called Caesarea and was in charge of many soldiers. Cornelius and his family worshiped God. Cornelius always prayed to God.One day God sent an angel to tell Cornelius to send for Peter, one of Jesus’ disciples. Cornelius sent three men to get Peter who was in a town called Joppa. As the men were going to Joppa, Peter had a vision that he did not understand. Then God spoke to Peter and told him that Cornelius’s servants were looking for him. God told Peter to go with the men. Peter obeyed and went with them.

Cornelius, his family, and his friends were waiting when Peter arrived at his house. Cornelius explained that an angel had told him to send for Peter. Peter preached to Cornelius and everyone at his house. Peter told them about Jesus. Peter said that Jesus was sent by God so people could be forgiven for their sins. THE ANTIOCH CHURCH HELPEDACTS 11:19-30

The disciples continued to preach wherever they went and the good news about Jesus spread to many different places. In Antioch, many people believed that Jesus was God’s Son and joined the new church. When the church people in Jerusalem heard that the church in Antioch was growing, they sent a man named Barnabas there to see what was happening. Barnabas was happy with what he saw. He encouraged the people in Antioch to love Jesus and keep telling others about Him.Barnabas went to Tarsus to bring Saul to Antioch so they both could teach the people in Antioch. They stayed there for a whole year. People who believed in Jesus were first called Christians at the church in Antioch.

The Christians in Antioch learned that a famine (not having enough food) was coming to Judea. The church people at Antioch wanted to help the people in Judea. They collected food and offerings and sent Barnabas and Saul to take everything they collected to the church people in Judea.

PEOPLE PRAYED FOR PETERACTS 12:5-19

King Herod had Peter put in prison. Worse than that: King Herod planned to have Peter killed! Peter’s church friends met together and prayed for God to help Peter. That night while the people prayed, Peter slept chained between two guards. An angel appeared. “Quick, get up,” the angel said. “Get dressed. Put on your sandals and your cloak, and follow me.” The chains that held Peter fell to the ground.

Peter thought he was dreaming, but he followed the angel as they went past the sleeping guards, through the prison gates, and into the city. Then the angel left. Peter suddenly realized that this was not a dream! The angel had helped him leave the prison. He hurried to the house where the church people were praying.Peter knocked on the door. A servant named Rhoda came to the door and heard Peter’s voice, but she was so excited that she didn’t open the door! Instead, she ran to tell the people that Peter was there. No one believed her. They said she was crazy.

Peter kept knocking and finally they opened the door. The people were so surprised! Peter told them how God had answered their prayers. Then Peter went away to a safe place.

PAUL BECAME A MISSIONARYACTS 13

In the church in the city of Antioch, there were men who were teachers and prophets. They taught the people that Jesus was the Son of God. Paul and Barnabas were two of these men. God spoke to the men, saying, “Paul and Barnabas are special. I want them to go many places and tell about Jesus.”So the men in the church prepared, then placed their hands on Paul and Barnabas, prayed for them, and sent them off. Paul and Barnabas traveled to an island called Cyprus. They taught about Jesus in the synagogues. A Roman soldier believed in Jesus after Paul and Barnabas spoke.

Paul and Barnabas continued to travel to many places to teach about Jesus. People would listen. Some people would believe and others would not believe, but Paul wanted everyone to know that Jesus is God’s Son.

PAUL AND BARNABAS TOLD ABOUT JESUSACTS 14

Paul and Barnabas continued to travel to different cities, telling the people about Jesus. In each city they would go to the synagogue and talk about Jesus. Many of the Jews and Greeks listened and believed that Jesus is the Son of God.But some Jews, who did not want to believe that Jesus is God’s Son, began to cause trouble for Paul and Barnabas. They wanted to hurt Paul and Barnabas, but the men learned about the plan and left to go to another city.

When Paul and Barnabas were in a city called Lystra, they healed a man who could not walk. When the people saw what they did, they thought Paul was God. Paul said, “I am only a man. God, who made heaven and earth, gave me the power to heal this man.” More people tried to hurt Paul and Barnabas, so they left that city.Paul and Barnabas traveled to many towns, spreading the good news about Jesus. They returned to the church in Antioch, which had sent them. They told about all the things God had done and all the people who had believed.

PAUL TAUGHT LYDIA ABOUT JESUSACTS 16:11-15

Paul and his friend Timothy were missionaries. They traveled to many different places, telling people about Jesus. The friends sailed in a boat to the country of Macedonia. They were going where God had told them to go.They arrived in Philippi, a big and important city. Many people lived there, but many people did not know about God. Paul and Timothy went to tell the people about God and Jesus.

On the Sabbath Day, the special day to rest and worship God, Paul and Timothy left the city and walked along the river. They were looking for a place where people met to pray. A group of women had gathered by the river outside the city.Paul and Timothy sat down and began to talk to the women who had gathered together. They were happy to tell the women about Jesus. One of the women who listened to Paul was named Lydia. Lydia sold purple cloth. Lydia listened and believed what Paul was saying. She became a follower of Jesus.

PAUL AND SILASACTS 16:16-34

After they left Philippi, Paul and Silas traveled to many places to tell about Jesus. At one place Paul healed a young girl, which made some men angry. The men brought Paul and Silas to the judges and said that they were disturbing the city. The judges had Paul and Silas beaten and put in jail. They ordered the jailer to chain them so they would not be able to escape from the jail.In the middle of the night, Paul and Silas were praying and singing songs to God. The other prisoners were listening. Suddenly there was an earthquake. The earthquake shook the jail, the doors opened, and everyone’s chains came off. When the jailer saw the open doors, he thought the prisoners had escaped. But Paul called out to him, “All of us are here!”

The jailer asked how he could believe like Paul and Silas. “Believe that Jesus is the Son of God,” Paul told him.The jailer took Paul and Silas to his home and gave them some food. The jailer and everyone in his family believed in Jesus and were baptized.

PAUL TAUGHT IN ATHENSACTS 17:16-34

Paul traveled to many places in Greece to tell all the people about Jesus and teach them. Then he went to Athens and waited for his friends to join him. As he walked through the city, he saw many idols that people worshiped, instead of worshiping God. He talked to Jews in the synagogue and other people in the marketplace. Paul told people about the one true God and His Son, Jesus.

Some men who were very smart thinkers heard what Paul was saying. This was new to them, so they invited him to talk in a special place that was like a courtroom. Paul stood in the center and spoke to the men. “I see many places to worship. Let me tell you about the one true God who made heaven and earth and everything in it. He made every person and wants people to worship Him. He wants people to know that His Son, Jesus, came to save people and was made alive after He died.”

Some people would not believe, but some others listened and believed in Jesus.

TIMOTHY LEARNED ABOUT JESUS2 TIMOTHY 1:1-5; 3:14-17

Paul chose a young man named Timothy to travel with him and help teach people about Jesus. Timothy had been taught about God by his mother, Eunice, and his grandmother, Lois. The believers thought that Timothy was a special young man. He was able to help Paul teach about Jesus.Later Paul wrote a special letter to Timothy. “Timothy, you are like a son to me. I pray for you constantly. I thank God for your mother and grandmother, who taught you to be a faithful believer.

“Continue to believe in everything you were taught by your mother and your grandmother. Remember that the Bible is from God and is used to teach and train people. It is also used to help people make right choices. Follow what the Bible says, just as you have done since you were a young boy.”

PETER TAUGHT ABOUT CHOICES1 AND 2 PETER

Peter was a friend and disciple of Jesus. He learned many things about God and how God wants people to live. He knew that Jesus was the Son of God. After Jesus went back to heaven, Peter taught many people about Jesus. He wrote some letters to the people he had taught. He wanted to remind them of the important things he had taught them.Peter wrote: “I am a disciple of Jesus. I am writing to you who love Jesus. I know you have heard many stories about Jesus. I want to teach you the things Jesus taught me so you will always remember them. Husbands and wives should love each other. We should obey the laws of the government. Let others see you doing good things. You should love one another and obey the truth that Jesus taught. Keep learning about Jesus. He is our example of how we should live.”People read the letters from Peter. The letters are part of our Bible today.
