Temporary irradiation facility at the CNGS beam
D. Mcfarlane, T. Wijnands,
Motivation to test equipment on site
• Exposure to LHC like radiation field• Short turn around• Pre selection of components facilitated• Complete systems tests (crates) before installation• RP issues
MC simulations
• ARC per Gy– 1 x 108 to 1 x 1010 n > 100 keV– 2 x 108 to 4 x 109 n > 20 MeV– 2 x 108 to 2 x 109 n > 100 MeV
• CNGS per Gy– 1 x 1010 n > 100 keV– 5 x 109 n > 20 MeV
Dose rates :
CNGS : 1 to 150 Gy per week
ARC-DS : 1 to 200 Gy per year
CNGS Radiation Test facility
• 5 x WorldFIP Cable – 1 of which is for the RadMon installation
• 4 x Profibus Cable• 8 x NE48 Cable
– Cable request given to TS/EL (8th Feb 2008)
• 2 x (6x monomode fibre optic tubes)– Request given to TS/EL/CF (12th Feb 2008)
• 4 x SubD Cables• 4 x Patch panel (test area)
• 1 x Rack (repeater station)
• 2 x Rack (Control room)Length of each cable is approx 1.2km (Around 28km in total)
