July 23 — 29 Mass Intentions Readings

Children: How do you keep Sunday as a day of rest? Youth: Jesus was moved with pity for the people who were gathered. Who are the people you are moved with pity for? What can you do to help them? Adults: Why is rest important, and how do you make sure you get enough of it in your own life?

Saint of the Week Ignatius Loyola

Ignatius was the youngest of thirteen children of a noble family in the Basque region of Spain. He entered the military service and had a promising career ahead of him until he was wounded during the siege of Pamplona in 1521. During his long recovery, Ignatius spent the time reading religious books, as there was nothing else available to him. These readings included a life of Christ and the lives of saints, both of which had a profound effect on him. After his recovery, he made a pilgrimage to Monserrat where he hung up his sword at Our Lord's altar. He then spent a year in retreat at Manresa where he experienced visions and began writing his Spiritual Exercises. All of this eventually led him to be the founder of the Jesuits, and a great leader at a troubled time of church history.

Ignatius followed the call as it unfolded in his heart, one step at a time. In this, God led him to the work of his lifetime. So it is with us. Listen closely to how God

may be calling you.

ActivityoftheWeek

Choose one of the following activities as a way to further re lect on the Sunday readings.

Jesus’ teachings touch our lives. Ask family members to share their thoughts on the following questions: What are your three favorite teachings of Jesus? Why? In the Gospel reading, Jesus was touched by the masses of people. As a family, undertake a project of caring for something or someone not being cared for. Re lect on the importance of care and what happens to people and things that do not receive the proper care. Jesus offered the disciples rest. What do you do and where do you go when you feel overwhelmed? Take time to rest during the week. Find a quiet place, and invite Jesus to join you and rest. Invite a minister from your Parish or another community leader to your house for dinner and relaxation with your family.
