GOD GATHERS US
Prelude
Confession and Forgiveness All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins.
P Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God, who creates us and redeems us,
who strengthens us and leads us into new life.
C Amen.
P If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins
and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Gathered together by God’s Holy Spirit,
let us confess our sin.
Please kneel as you are able. Silence is kept for reflection.
Good and gracious God,
SPIRIT CHECK
Please silence your cell phones.
Welcome to worship! Today we wrap up our sermon series about tempta on and look at the third
way the devil tempts Jesus. The devil tempts Jesus by telling him to jump off the temple because
the angels will save him and never let him fall. Jesus doesn’t jump and says you should never test
the Lord. The devil then retreated un l the next opportunity presented itself. I think the most
common way we test God is by giving into our tempta ons without thinking about the conse-
quences because we know grace will save us. We use God’s grace to help us feel be er about the
choices we make before we make them. We test God’s grace without even realizing it. God’s
grace is not meant to be used as an excuse, but it’s meant as a promise that we cannot escape.
We are not called to test God, but we are called to live a life that is worthy of our calling as Chris-
ans. God’s grace is for you, and that’s a promise that we should not try to break. —Pastor Kate

Welcome
C You come to us, but we do not recognize you; you call, but we do not follow;
you command, but we do not obey; you provide for us, but we do not thank
you. We easily give into our own desires and abandon your ways of life.
Please forgive us with your great mercy.
Help us to live in your light, walk in your ways, and resist the temptations of
this world, for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.
P God, who is rich in mercy, loved us even when we were dead in sin, and made us
alive together with Christ. By grace you have been saved. In the name of ☩ Jesus Christ, your sins are forgiven. Almighty God strengthen you with power through
the Holy Spirit, that Christ may live in your hearts through faith.
C Amen.
Kyrie
Apostolic Greeting
P The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God,
and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
C And also with you.
Prayer of the Day
P Let us pray. Lord Christ, you came into the world as one of us,
and suffered as we do. As we go through the trials of life,
help us to realize that you are with us at all times and in all things;
that we have no secrets from you; and that your loving grace enfolds us for eternity.
In the security of your embrace we pray.
C Amen.

The Apostles’ Creed
P Along with the whole church on earth, we confess our faith into which we baptize,
C I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Worship, Connect, Grow Serve Opportunities

today by making a $25 contribution in your name to a charity of your choice. After worship, please stop by our Welcome Center in the Atrium so you can designate the
charity and provide us with your information. Thank you for joining us today.

C And also with you.
P Lift up your hearts.
C We lift them to the Lord.
P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
C It is right to give our thanks and praise.
P It is indeed right, our duty and our joy...and join their unending hymn:
P With joy we praise you, gracious God...now and forever.
C Amen.
P Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, we pray the prayer Jesus gave us:
Lord’s Prayer
C Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
now and forever. Amen.
Communion
At Preston Meadow Lutheran, our communion table is “open.” That means that you don’t have to be a member of PMLC to commune, or even a Lutheran. We welcome children of all ages to this favorite meal of the church because we know that we come at Jesus’ invitation to receive his free gift of grace. Parents, if your children are not yet communing, encourage them to fold their arms over their chests to receive a blessing. If you are communing, simply open your hands and bread will be given to you. Cups with white grape juice are located in the center of the trays; gluten-free wafers are available on request. Come and enjoy the free gifts of God!
