We were lucky to have 43 families attend our event on Saturday 5 th November with families signing up on the day. Thank you for your ever growing support and your word of mouthculture helped us to achieve beyond are target of 40 families. Over the past two weeks we have appointed a new Head Boy and Head Girl, redesigned our student council team, won our first ever Girl Guides Queens Award, beaten local international schools in Netball and Football competitions, hosted Deepavali celebrations and United Nations Day, won awards from Cambridge for best students in Malaysia and World and organised a 50 student scout weekend. Wow! As usual this would not be possible without the help of parents, teachers and of course the students. Thank you all for being part of our community and supporting the school. This week I was contacted for an interview by a magazine group, I was asked to state one word to describe us as a school and I replied there is no singular word. There are too many words to describe the wonderful world of Tenby however success, achievement and well-rounded individuals would be near the top. Canteen Review We have been reviewing the canteen for both staff and students. Over 300 students and 61 staff completed the questionnaire. We are currently working with Fabulosity Management Services to improve the experience for both staff and students. Learning Live Tours People have asked, “what date is your next Open Day?” My first response is “its every day”. The best time to see the school is when learning is going on. If you have friends or family who would like to see live lessons then tell them to phone and attend our tour. Tours start at 8am in the Foyer. Please email Ms Stephanie for a place on [email protected] or phone 04 892 7777. TSPA Update

The TSPA Excom meeting took place this week and the group are currently reviewing finances and 2016 and setting

new budgets for 2017. This will be presented at the next TSPA monthly meeting in November. The TSPA have been

working hard as usual to support the school and have supported with Deepavali celebrations, United Nations Day,

Scout Camp

The school scout camp was held from the 21st -22

nd October 2016. A total of 56 scouts from the primary and the

secondary school attended the two days camp.

The camp was a success. The scouts were involved in many

activities such as pitching their tents, designing their team flag,

survival training, first aid sessions, fire fighting and cooking

competition.

It was a thumbs up from everyone who participated.

We would like to thank teachers who organised and ran the

camp.

Swimming Certificates

Other than its safety benefit, swimming is a beneficial activity as it trains the cardiovascular system. It is a low impact

exercise and provides a whole body workout as you have to move all parts of your body. Furthermore, a swim

session in the pool relaxes the mind and is often an occasion for social contacts

A group of our students received their swimming competency certificate after undergoing a swimming course. Well

done to those who have completed their training.

Best Class of the Month of October 2016

The Best Class Of the Month of October 2016 goes to Tahun 4.

REUSE, REDUCE AND RECYCLE – Form2 (English Language)

Students had fun learning about the environmental benefits of recycling and how reusing,

reducing and recycling (3R’S) can save resources and reduce pollution.

Students worked in groups to create a birthday gift using recycled paper, tins, bottles and boxes. They presented

their finished products proudly and tokens were awarded for effort and work well done!

The project helped students to understand the importance and benefits of 3R’s and how it helps to save resources.

Besides that, students also had the opportunity to work in groups which helped them to enhance their social skills.

Batik painting (Art)

Students learnt batik painting. The craft requires a steady hand and

much concentration. Basically, the process included sketching the

required picture on cloth and then applying wax. Lastly colours are

applied.

Students produced pieces of batik with a flora and fauna theme.

Now, this is

how it’s done…

Tenby International Primary School (TIPS)

Dear Parents,

It has been a very exciting and busy couple of weeks in the Primary

school. Diwali celebrations were held last week, efficiently co- ordinated,

by Ms Rino and Ms Simi. Through Bahasa lessons the children learned

all about the history behind the celebration. All classes also cooperated

to create a TIPS Rangoli column.

In the assembly we were treated to some fantastic dancing and singing

from siblings, Kabir Year3 & Avneet Year 4. They really got the crowd

involved with their excellent performances.

Finalists again!

Last Saturday we took part in the annual, U11 invitational Football

tournament at Uplands. This competition had 14 teams from across

Penang and KL. As always the boys played with great commitment

and skill. For the second consecutive year, our A team managed to

get the final. They came runners up over all, only losing by one goal.

The boys proudly wore their medals home. Thank you to Coach Zaff

and Ms Jackson for training the teams so well.

Tenby International Secondary School (TISS)

It was a well-deserved and well-timed half term break for all our students and staff. Everyone is back looking vibrant

and full of energy and enthusiasm for their learning goals again!

As you can see from the Tenby Penang social media sites TISS continues where we finished back in October, UN

Day displayed a whole array of food, drink and displays of information from the research they had been doing in their

tutor times. It was great to see the team work amongst the students and the competition (and tactics!) to tempt you

into their country!

This weekend we host the Late Late Halloween event and look forward to welcoming the ghosts and ghouls to Tenby

Penang for more food, activities and a disco. For further information please speak to one of the Student Leadership

team or see one of the many posters around the school.

The year 11 students are beginning to realise that they are almost at the point of making one of the most difficult

decisions of their lives so far; what to do after their IGCSE’s and we are providing careers support and information

via different means to ensure our students make the right decision of where and what to study next.

So much to pack into the next three weeks for our students and I hope that we see you at the upcoming Parents

Events.

Have a fabulous weekend.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards,

Miss Liz

We are proud to present our new 6F Prospectus.

The prospectus provides key information to help our year 11 students

and parents decide on the next step in their education.

What is included? Course information, subject breakdown and

prerequisites, interview with current year 13 student Kenji, what to

expect at sixth form, careers and pastoral support and guidance and

how to apply.

If you would like a copy please contact [email protected] and we

would be happy to send you one.

Thank you to Kiisha and Kenji for modelling!

Year 11 Get to Quiz our Sixth Form Students! – Part of Year 11 Transition

Our year 12 students (pictured) will be welcoming the current year 11 students into the library on Tuesday to speak

to them about their “next step” once their IGCSE exams are complete. Obviously decisions will need to be made

before then about where and what qualification they will go on to study. For year 11 students it is a great opportunity

to ask questions to find out why they chose Tenby, why they chose to study the A level programme and any careers

or university questions that may be useful.

Ms Paula and Mr Nick will be meeting with our year 11 students that are unsure of their next step to provide relevant

careers advice and support to help them with their decision making.

Sport Fixtures:

Netball Tuesday 1 November - It was a fantastic away match as our tigress marched into the Lion’s den. However having the home advantage, Uplands overpowered Tenby in both on this occasion. Tenby A v Uplands A Lost 6-12 Tenby B v Uplands B Lost 13-25 Well, it was definitely a good exposure for Tenby to play against Uplands who staged much stronger and experienced players. We will come back stronger next time! Monday 7 November - It was survival of the fittest, having home advantage, Uplands clearly walked out with disappointment as Tenby flexed their way for a double combo win this time. Well done!! Tenby A won 24-18 Tenby B won 10-2 Thank you Coach Fumi and Ms.Aini for piloting the team. #comebackstronger Thank you very much to all the players, staff and supporters! Mr Yorain PE DEPARTMENT

U14 Netball Match : Tenby vs Straits Reported by: Christine Lim U14 Vice-Captain

Tenby A vs Straits A: 29-1 Win Tenby A: Miho (Captain), Christine (Vice), Carmen, Gurudevi, Ee Lin, Ping Er, Kyla and Peng Hsin. Straits had a really great start of the game with some good accurate passes, but passes were intercepted by Wing Defence player Carmen then with a quick goal from Miho. Pressure was put into Straits’ girls with the score 5-0 by quarter time. After a good and inspirational team talk from both coaches, the two teams came out fighting and a far more exciting quarter brought the score to 11-0. After half time, Straits team knew that they were still in with a fighting chance. The players improved their passing skills to keep the ball in the team’s hand and finally scored a goal by the shooter. Minutes and minutes passed by, with the sharp Centre player Gurudevi and Wing Attack player Ee Lin, Tenby was able to shoot in 28 goals. With just two minutes left on the clock, the goal shooter popped in another goal Tenby secured the win! Tenby B vs Straits A : 11–5 Win Tenby B: Jean (Captain), Yun Whey, Yu Qi, Joelle, Jovie, Keshika, Rian, Ping Er and Eshnaa. The girls worked exceptionally hard during the match and it was the first time for the girls to play against Straits’ A team. The first quarter was slow moving and the final score was 3-2. With Yu Qi’s great defending skills, Straits was unable to score more goals. The girls created solid chains down the court and used the space efficiently, but still need to be improved. Jovie and Rian worked well together as a pair, they kept the game moving with their strong and right targeted passes. Jean and Yun Whey communicated well with each other and supported each other during the shooting. Jean scored their first goal in the third quarter with her accurate shooting skills. The girls worked so hard in the final quarter and finally ended up with 11-5 as a result. What a good and exciting game with Straits!
