Tennessee Justice Center
The Tennessee Justice Center is a 501(c)(3)
non-profit organization working to secure
the basic necessities of life,
including health care, for Tennessee’s most
vulnerable children and families.
The current focus of our work is on access
to health care and the impact of health care
reform on Tennessee. Since 1995, TJC’s
staff has provided direct service to thousands
of low-income families, helping them to
obtain essential health care, family assistance
and food aid. Our policy advocacy on behalf
of these families is grounded in, and informed
by, the real life experiences of the many
courageous and inspiring clients whom we
are privileged to know and serve.
We work to build a healthier, more just
Tennessee for all of our neighbors.

Community Impact
Last year TJC directly helped 900 Tennesseans obtain the health care or
financial help they needed, and our advocacy drove systemic reforms that
aided many thousands more. Since 1995 we have helped more than 1.2
million Tennesseans.
“Through its advocacy for vulnerable
Tennesseans, TJC has made our legal
system more just, our community
more compassionate, and our govern-
ment institutions more accountable.
This small public-interest law firm…
has an outsized effect on the quality
of life in Tennessee.”
- Retired Justice E. Riley Anderson
The Tennessean, February 2011
“Y’all were able to give me the strength and courage to
pursue this, because I would have given up. I didn’t know
what was out there, I didn’t know there was someone
who could help us. And once I found that out I just knew
that we had to keep going and pursuing it.”
-TJC Mother of the Year, Emily May 2015
“Ask the average person to list nonprofits in Tennessee, and you’ll get a sampling of the usual suspects … But hone the question a little: Which Tennessee-based nonprofit is the most conspicuous and has directly affected the welfare of more Tennesseans? The Tennessee Justice Center, of course.” - Business TN March 2005
